Henry Jones to Joseph Huston - Part of Shepherdsville Lots 57-58

On 11 Feb 1818, Benjamin Summers purchased two-thirds of lot 57 (new plan) from Adam Shepherd. On 6 Apr 1821, he sold the ground to Henry C. Jones. Jones later sold at least part of the ground to Joseph Huston, as shown below.

John Collins bought lot 58 in 1797, and according to the deed below, it came into the possession of Harmon Greathouse at Collins' death. Greathouse then sold it to Henry Jones who later sold a portion on the southeast corner to Weir Tilford. Jones then sold another part located on the southwest part to Nelly Miles on 10 May 1822; and another part adjoining that belonging to Tilford to John M. Jones on 15 Apr 1823. Then, on 8 Nov 1824, Henry sold parts of this lot to Joseph Huston in two separate deeds: Deed 1 (shown below); Deed 2.

This indenture made and entered into this eighth day of November in the year of our Lord 1824 between Henry C. Jones of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the one part, and Joseph Huston of the same county and state of the other part.

Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $1000 by the said Huston to the said Jones in hand paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said Jones hath given, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirmed unto the said Joseph Huston the following described tracts of land, lots of ground with all and singular the appurtenances unto each lot and parcel belonging to-wit.

That part of Lot No. 58 in the new plan of the town of Shepherdsville which lies between the west end of the two brick tenements built thereon by Henry and John M. Jones and the west line of the said lot as laid off in said plan supposed to be 29 feet in front, say beginning at said corner and running on a straight line north to the line of a small lot conveyed by said Henry C. Jones to Nathan Miles in trust for Eleanor Miles, thence with said west line to the original corner of said lot, thence south to the west corner of said lot, thence east with the original front line of said lot to the beginning.

And also the following lot or parcel of ground lying and being also in the said town of Shepherdsville to-wit; that part of lot No. 57 in the new plan of the town of Shepherdsville which was purchased by the said Henry of John Beckwith Jr. on which the tavern house stands wherein Charles Jones formerly kept a tavern commonly called the red house.

Also the following tract or parcel of land lying in the said county of Bullitt to-wit: beginning at a stake the most northeastwardly corner of Jacob Shawler's one acre lot in the town of Shepherdsville, thence North 6 1/2° East 57 1/2 poles to a stake, thence North 83 1/2° West about 27 poles to a stake; thence South 6 1/2° West 57 1/2 poles to a stake in the direction of the most eastwardly side of Plumb Street when extended, thence South 83 1/2° East about 27 poles to the beginning, supposed to contain ten acres, be the same more or less.

Also one other tract or parcel of land lying and being in said county of Bullitt near the town of Shepherdsville and adjoining a four acre lot formerly belonging to Benjamin Hughes, and bounded as follows, to-wit.

Beginning at said Hughes' northwestwardly corner at a stake running thence North 6 1/2° East 23 poles and one-sixth to a stake, thence South 83 1/2° East about 97 poles to a stake in the direction of the most westwardly side line of Plumb Street when extended, thence 6 1/2° West 23 and one-sixth poles to a stake the most northeastwardly corner of Hughes, thence with Hughes' line North 83 1/2° West about 27 poles to the beginning, Supposed to contain about four acres which two last mentioned tracts of land were conveyed by deeds to the said Jones by James Halbert.

To have and to hold the said several tracts of land, lots of ground &c with all and singular the appurtenances unto each belonging to him the said Joseph Huston his heirs &c to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever and the said Henry Jones for himself, his heirs &c hereby covenants to unto with the said Joseph Huston that he will and his heirs &c against the claim of him and them, and also against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal day and date above.
