Margaret Halbert to Matthew Wilson - Shepherdsville Lots 5-6

James Halbert purchased Shepherdsville Lot 5 from Adam Shepherd. Then Samuel Crow purchased lot 6 from Adam Shepherd and sold it to James Halbert on 13 Apr 1818. Following Halbert's death, his widow sold both lots to Matthew Wilson on 3 Feb 1827, as shown below.

This appears to conflict with the sale of Halbert's lot 5 by the Circuit Court to James Alexander in 1822.

On 2 Nov 1827, Wilson sold both lots to Brooky Barker.


Bullitt County Deed Book F, Pages 251-252

This indenture made this third day of February 1827 between Margaret Halbert, administratrix with the will annexed of James Halbert dec'd now of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part, and Matthew Wilson of the same county and state of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said Margaret Halbert, administratrix as aforesaid, for and in consideration of the directions of the will of said James Halbert dec'd authorizing the sale of his lots in Shepherdsville for the payment of his debts, and the further consideration of $90 current money of the United States to her in hand paid before the sealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Matthew Wilson, his heirs &c two certain lots of land being in and a part of the town of Shepherdsville and being known on the new plan of said town by the numbers 5 and 6; also a certain piece or parcel of land near to and adjoining the said town of Shepherdsville containing one acre and bounded as follows, to-wit; Beginning at the southeast corner of the one acre lot belonging to the heirs of Jacob Shawler, thence westwardly the course of town lots to a point opposite the east side of Plumb Street when extended, thence northwardly the course of the town lots to a corner of the lot of ten acres conveyed by James Halbert to Henry Jones, thence eastwardly the course of the town lots to the northwest corner of said Shawler's lot, thence with his line to the beginning.

To have and to hold the said lots and parcels of land with all the appurtenances unto the said Matthew Wilson, his heirs &c, free and clear of and from all right and title of dower or other incumbrance and to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And the said Margaret Halbert, administratrix as aforesaid, doth covenant and agree to and with the said Matthew Wilson that she will and the heirs of James Halbert dec'd shall warrant and forever defend the said lots and parcels of land unto the said Matthew Wilson, his heirs &c from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said Margaret Halbert, administratrix as aforesaid, hereto sets her name and seal on the day and year before written. [signed by grantor]
