Lorenzo Hogland to Henry J. Craycroft - 1 Acre

After John H. Baker & wife transferred ownership of the forge tract to Charles Quirey and James E. Tyler in 1845, Quirey and Tyler sold about 3 acres of it that adjoined Shepherdsville on the west and next to the graveyard to George W. Miles. Miles sold the acre closest to town to John B. Shepherd in 1849. Following Shepherd's death, the tract was deeded by his heirs, via a court suit, to Lorenzo Hogland. Hogland then sold the acre to Henry J. Craycroft in December 1852 as shown below. Craycroft then sold it to Christopher O'Brian in November 1853.

Bullitt County Deed Book M, Page 388

This indenture made this 6th day of December in the year of Christ 1852 between Lorenzo Hogland and Sarah his wife of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part and Henry J. Craycroft of the City of Louisville and same state of the other part.

Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $200 in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, they the said Hogland and wife have granted, bargained and sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Craycroft, his heirs &c a certain lot of ground supposed to contain one acre more or less together with the buildings and appurtenances thereon, situate, lying and being near to the original boundary of the town of Shepherdsville and by a recent Act of the Legislature session of 1851-2 included and taken into said town, [see below] being the upper part of the forge tract of land, formerly the property of John B. Shepherd and conveyed to him by George W. Miles and Minerva B. his wife by deed bearing date the 4th of April 1849, and recorded in Deed Book L, page 428, which deed of conveyance is referred to for more particular description of the premises.

To have and to hold the said described lot of ground with the buildings and improvements thereon to him the said Craycroft, his heirs and assigns, and the said Hogland and wife for themselves, their heirs &c do covenant and agree to and with the said Craycroft, his heirs &c that they will and their heirs shall forever warrant and defend the said described premises and property unto the said Craycroft, his heirs &c against the claim or claims of all persons claiming or to claim th same.

State of Kentucky, Bullitt County Sct.I Robert F. Samuels, clerk of the county court for said county, do certify that on 7 December 1852 this deed from L. Hogland and Sarah Hogland his wife to H. J. Craycroft was produced to me in my office and acknowledged by said Hogland and wife to be their act and deed. Thereupon I have truly recorded the same in my office this 11th day of December 1852. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That the limits of the town of Shepherdsville, in Bullitt county, be so extended as to include the house and lot now in the occupancy of Lloyd Friddle, and the same deeded by Quirey and Tyler to George W. Miles.
