After John H. Baker & wife transferred ownership of the forge tract to Charles Quirey and James E. Tyler in 1845, Quirey and Tyler sold about 3 acres of it that adjoined Shepherdsville on the west and next to the graveyard to George W. Miles, as shown here. Miles sold the acre closest to town to John B. Shepherd in 1849.

This indenture made this 17th day of August 1847 between Charles Quirey and Malinda his wife and James E. Tyler and Eleanor A. his wife now of Bullitt County and state of Kentucky of the one part and George W. Miles of the same county and state aforesaid of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said Charles Quirey and Malinda his wife and James E. Tyler and Eleanor A. his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of $250 to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, aliened, released, enfeoffed, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, enfeoff, convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part a certain tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances lying and being in Bullitt County on Salt River adjoining the town of Shepherdsville on the west containing three acres, one rood and 31 rod, bounded as follows:
Beginning at the corner of the plank fence at a road and in the western boundary line of said town, thence with said line North 7 1/2° East 22 8/10 poles to a stake being the southeast corner of the grave yard lot, thence with the line of said lot North 84° West 25 36/100 poles to a stake, being the southwest corner of said lot, thence South 8° West 20 48/100 poles to a part of said plank fence at the road leading to the forge, thence with said fence South 78 3/4° East 25 6/10 poles to the beginning; and all the estate, right, title, claim, interest and fee of them the said party of the first part of, in and to the same.
To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns to their only proper use and behoof forever; but it is expressly understood that the party of the second part is not to sell, lease or rent any or part of the above premises to any person or persons except those who may be in the employ of the Shepherdsville Iron Manufacturing Company without the written consent of the said Company, and the said party of the first part convenant and agree with said party of the second part, and with his heirs and assigns, that they will, and their heirs, executors and administrators shall warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part and to their heirs and assigns against all and every person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same.
In witness whereof the said party of the first part hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first written. (signed) Charles Quirey, Malinda Quirey, James E. Tyler, Eleanor A. Tyler
State of Kentucky, Bullitt County, to wit. I Noah C. Summers, clerk of the county court for said county, certified that this deed from Charles Quirey and wife and James E. Tyler and wife to George W. Miles was this 18th day of August 1847 acknowledge before me in my county by said James E. Tyler and Eleanor A. Tyler his wife to be their act and deed; and on 23 August 1847 acknowledged before me in my office by said Charles Quirey and Malinda his wife to be their act and deed, and the said Melinda Quirey and Eleanor A. Tyler, being examined by me separately and apart from their said husbands as the law requires, declared that they did freely and willingly seal and deliver said deed and wished not to retract it, and acknowledge said deed again shown and explain to them to be their voluntary act indeed and consented that the same might be recorded; and thereupon the same and this certificate at the instance of the grantee is truly recorded in my set office this 15th of September 1847.
