H. C. & Susie E. Bowman to George W. Maraman - Shepherdsville Lot 54

Shepherdsville lot 54 had originally been purchased by Edward Frye in 1797. He next sold it to John L. Summers of Maryland in 1800. At some point it came into the possession of John B. Summers who sold it to Lewis Willcoxen. Willcoxen would later sell the lot to Thomas Q. Willson. Willson, in an arrangement with Rufus K. Summers, sold the lot to Richard P. Simmons.

Simmons would continue to own the lot until his death. It was sold by his heirs to George W. Miles in 1857. Miles then sold it to William Walden in 1864. Walden then sold it to Andon Gild, a carpenter and immigrant from Baden, Germany. Gild sold the lot to Susie E. Bowman in 1874 as shown below.

The Bowmans, via a court case, sold the lot to George W. Maraman in 1882, as shown below.

Whereas on the 10th day of May 1880, a petition in equity was filed in the Bullitt Circuit Court of Kentucky by Austin Hough against H. C. Bowman and wife seeking to enforce a mortgage lein on and for a sale of the property herein conveyed, to satisfy his mortgage debt, and on the 18th day of November 1880 a judgment was rendered by said Court directing its master commissioner to sell the property herein conveyed, and said commissioner reported such sale on the 17th day of May 1881, which report was by the Court confirmed on the __ day of __ 188_. It appears from said report that the commissioner followed the directions of the judgment in advertising the property to be sold, the time, place and terms of sale, and on the 20th day of December 1880 at the courthouse door in Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky, being the time and place advertised for its sale, offered said property publicly to the highest bidder when Austin Hough being such bidder bought same for the price of $153.70 and said purchaser being the owner of the debt and the property having brought more than two-thirds of its appraised value, and said purchaser having by writing transferred his purchase thereof and requested the Court to convey same to George W. Maraman, and on the 18th day of May 1882 the Court directed its master commissioner to convey said property to said Maraman, retaining a lien on same to secure the payment of the balance of the purchase price, viz, two notes for $33 each payable in one and two years from 21 April 1882.

Now therefore in consideration of the premises, H. C. Bowman and Susie E. Bowman, his wife, and Austin Hough by E. W. Call, master commissioner of the Bullitt Circuit Court, do sell, convey and deliver unto George W. Maraman all their right, title, interest and claim in and to the property aforesaid described as follows.

A house and lot situated in the town of Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky on Water Street, known as the Walden property, the same conveyed by Andrew Gill to said H. C. and Susie E. Bowman.

To have and to hold the same unto the said George W. Maraman, his heirs and assigns forever with lien retained in same to secure said Austin Hough in the payment of said two notes of #33, each executed by said Maraman.
