James Halbert purchased Shepherdsville Lot 5 from Adam Shepherd. Then Samuel Crow purchased lot 6 from Adam Shepherd and sold it to James Halbert on 13 Apr 1818. Following Halbert's death, his widow sold both lots to Matthew Wilson on 3 Feb 1827.
This appears to conflict with the sale of Halbert's lot 5 by the Circuit Court to James Alexander in 1822.
On 2 Nov 1827, Wilson sold both lots to Brooky Barker. In 1830, as shown below, Barker mortgaged both lots, together with other lots he owned, to Richard P. Simmons, Joshua G. Barclay and George W. Barclay to secure debts he owned them. He appears to have paid the debts as he sold both lots to William Standiford on 21 Jan 1833.
Bullitt County Deed Book G, Pages 215-216
Whereas Brookey Barker is indebted to Richard P. Simmons in the sum of $65.12 this day paid to the trustees of Shepherdsville for him and is also indebted to Joshua G. Barclay and George W. Barclay in the sum of $67.30, now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises, the said Barker hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Simmons and Barclays the following described lots of ground in the town of Shepherdsville, to-wit: two lots numbered five and six in the new plan of said town, being the same now enclosed and on which the carding machine and buildings of said Barker stand, and also one other lot of ground adjoining the said town beginning on Third Street, thence North 6 1/2° East 139'5", thence westwardly the course of the town lots 198'11" to Plum Street when extended, thence southwardly the course of the town lots with a line of Plumb Street 99'5" to a stake, thence southwardly the course of the town lots 99'5" to the beginning; for which last described lot of ground the said Barker holds the bond of Jonathan Gore executed to James V. Robinson, and by said Robinson assigned to said Barker. Also two small lots or strips of ground in the said town of Shepherdsville numbered 85 and 86, being the same this day conveyed to said Brookey Barker by the trustees of the town of Shepherdsville.
To have and to hold the said lots of land with the improvements thereon to them the said Simmons and Barclays to their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever, and the said Barker for himself, his heirs &c hereby covenants to warrant the same to them the said Simmons and Barclays against the claim of all and every person or persons whatever.
Nevertheless and these presents are on this condition that if the said Barker shall on or before four years from this day pay unto the said Simmnons the sum of $65.12 with interest until paid, adn pay unto the said Barclays the said sum of $67.30 with interest from the 22 of December 1829 until paid, then these presents are to be null and void, otherwise to remain in full force. In the meantime the said Barker is to have the possession of the said property.
N.B. There is the sum of $18 included in the amount due to Barclays that Barker says he thinks he does not owe. Should such amount turn out to be charged through mistake it is to be credited on the debt as so much paid without charging interest on the same. Witness the hand and seal of the said Barker this 30th day of June 1830.
