On 8 Sep 1830, Samuel Brown sold Mt. Washington lot No. 78 to Elizabeth Hall. Brown was the original purchaser of this lot [see Deed Book C, page 507] at the first sale of town lots. It appears from the deed that Elizabeth was already living there. In the 1840 census, Elizabeth's age was given as between 70-79. She died on 28 Sep 1840 and is buried in the Newkirk Cemetery in Bullitt County. At her death the lot descended to her two children Rebecca Newkirk and John S. Hall.
Rebecca and John had purchased the adjoining lot 74 from Samuel Gentry in 1844. On 9 Feb 1846, John S. Hall sold his half share of lots 74 and 78 to Austin Hough. Then on 5 Dec 1846, Rebecca and Austin agreed on a division of the property as shown below.
Following Rebecca Newkirk's death on 9 Jan 1852, her heirs sold her share of Lot 74 to Rachael Lux in August of the following year. In 1854 Austin Hough sold his share of lots 74 & 78 to Jacob N. Boswell.

Hall to Austin Hough is of record in the clerk's office of the Bullitt County Court; and whereas said Austin Hough and Rebecca Newkirk have this day by mutual agreement divided the said property between themselves in the following manner: the said Rebecca Newkirk agrees to take for her interest as one of the heirs of Elizabeth Hall dec'd in said house and lots 61 feet off of lot No. 74 binding on the school house lot on the west and fronting 61 feet on Main Street and extending the whole length of said lot including the dwelling house and other buildings; the said Austin Hough is to have the balance of Lot No. 74 and the whole of Lot No. 78 which joins the lands of Samuel Davison.
Now therefore these presents witnesseth; that for and in consideration of the above premises and for the purpose of securing to each of the contracting parties in title of their respective interests in the aforesaid houses and lots as divided by themselves, the said Austin Hough releases, and by these presents doth release and forever acquit unto the said Rebecca Newkirk all the title and interest that he has in and to the above described house and lot so allotted in the above division unto the said Rebecca Newkirk; and the said Rebecca Newkirk for and in consideration of the release so made by the said Austin Hough, releases to the said Hough, and by these presents doth forever release and acquit unto the said Austin Hough all the right, title and interest in and to the lot of ground so allotted to the said Hough in said division.
In testimony the said parties have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. (signed) Austin Hough, Rebecca [her x mark] Newkirk
