On 8 Sep 1830, Samuel Brown sold Mt. Washington lot No. 78 to Elizabeth Hall. Brown was the original purchaser of this lot [see Deed Book C, page 507] at the first sale of town lots. It appears from the deed that Elizabeth was already living there. In the 1840 census, Elizabeth's age was given as between 70-79. She died on 28 Sep 1840 and is buried in the Newkirk Cemetery in Bullitt County. At her death the lot descended to her two children Rebecca Newkirk and John S. Hall.
Rebecca and John had purchased the adjoining lot 74 from Samuel Gentry in 1844. On 9 Feb 1846, John S. Hall sold his half share of lots 74 and 78 to Austin Hough as shown below. Then on 5 Dec 1846, Rebecca and Austin agreed on a division of the property.

This indenture made and entered into this ninth day of February 1846 by and between John S. Hall of the city of Louisville, Jefferson County, and state of Kentucky of the one part, and Austin Hough of the town of Mount Washington, and the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the other part.
Witness that the said John S. Hall, for and in consideration of the sum of $100 good and lawful money of the United States of America to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, and sold, and do by these presents grant, bargain, and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm to the said Austin Hough the 1/2 of two undivided lots in the town of Mount Washington, whereon Elizabeth Hall deceased formerly lived and designated on the plot of said town has numbers 74 and 78.
To have and to hold the aforesaid 1/2 of the two undivided lots numbered as above together with all and singular the appurtenances unto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said Austin Hough, his heirs, executors &c to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever.
And the said John S. Hall, doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Austin Hough that the undivided half of the two lots and appurtenances hereby bargained, sold and conveyed he will and his heirs, executors &c shall warrant, and forever defend the title thereof unto the said Austin Hough, his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns against the claim of himself, his heirs &c and against the claim or claims of all persons claiming by through or under him or them, and against the claim or claims of all other persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same.
