On 3 Aug 1840 Rufus K. Summers sold 5 Shepherdsville lots and a 4 acre tract adjoining the town to Jacob Bowman Jr. He had obtained Lot #1 at a tax auction, and sold it to Bowman as a quit claim without a title warranty. The other 4 lots (81, 82, 83 and 84) had been purchased by Summers from the town trustees in 1828. Bowman sold Lot #1 to Frederick Travis in 1847.

This indenture made this 20 September 1847 between Jacob W. Bowman and Mary Jane Bowman his wife of one part, and Frederick Travis of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said Bowman, for an in consideration of the sum of one dollar in hand paid, he said Bowman has sold and conveyed, and by these presents does sell, convey and confirm unto the said Frederick Travis and his heirs &c forever lot No. 1 in the new plan of the town of Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky.
To have and to hold the said lot No. 1 and appurtenances to him, said Frederick Travis, and his heirs and assigns forever against the claims of the said Bowman and wife and all claiming under them by this deed of release and quit claim without any warranty of title in any event whatever, in case of the loss of said lot by any other claim whatever. Witness the hands and seals of the said J. W. Bowman and wife the date aforesaid. (signed) J. W. Bowman, M. J. Bowman
