While most original Shepherdsville lots were sold as whole lots, the one sitting at the corner of Main and Water Streets (originally numbered as #5, and later as #56) was divided in half, with Thomas McGee purchasing the southern half, and John Scott the northern part.
After purchasing the half-lot on 3 Mar 1817, McGee sold it two days later to Maxwell Huston. In a Circuit Court suit, Huston lost the lot to Joseph L. McGee, as shown below. Joseph then sold it to Richard P. Simmons.

State of Kentucky, Bullitt Circuit Sct, May Term 1824.
This day George F Pope, the commissioner appointed by the decree in the case to convey the land in the said decree mentioned, came personally into court and presented a deed for that purpose and acknowledged the same in court which is approved of and ordered to be certified and recorded. Teste. George F. Pope, C.B.C.C.
State of Kentucky. I George F. Pope, clerk of the Bullitt Circuit Court, do certify that I have recorded the foregoing deed with a certificate thereon endorsed in my office as by law required. Witness my hand this 29th day of May 1824. (signed) George F. Pope
Whereas at a Circuit Court held for the Bullitt Circuit at the courthouse in Shepherdsville on the 25th day of May 1824, the following decree was made, to wit.
Richard A. Taylor & wife against Maxwell Huston and Thomas McGee; chancery.
This day this cause came on for hearing upon the bill, amended bill, answers, depositions and exhibits filed, and the cause being duly considered by the court, it is ordered and decreed that the defendant Maxwell Huston convey to Joseph L. McGee by quit claim deed the house and lot in the bill mentioned on or before the 15th day of July next. And in case he fails to convey as aforesaid that then and in that case George F. Pope be and is hereby appointed commissioner to convey the lot as aforesaid by a quit claim deed to the said Joseph L. McGee.
And it is further ordered and decreed that the said Maxwell Huston deliver possession of the said house and lot to said Joseph on or before the 15th day of September next; and in case of failure a writ of possession issue to put him in possession.
And it is further ordered and decreed that George F. Pope be and is hereby appointed commissioner to ascertain the rents and profits of the said house and lot the time Thomas McGee had it in possession, and also ascertain the value of the rents and profits from the time that Maxwell Huston had it in possession until this time and make report to the next term of this court.
It is also ordered and decreed that the defendants pay complainants their costs by them in this suit expended.
It is further ordered and decreed that the said commissioner ascertain the now value of the improvements upon the said lot made by Maxwell Huston after he was possessed of the sail lot byh purchase from Thomas McGee.
And the court further decrees that the defendant Maxwell Huston recover of his co-defendant Thomas McGee the sum of $400 with interest thereon at the rate of 6% per annum from the 6th day of March in the year 1817 until paid, and that this cause be continued until the next term of this court.
And the said Maxwell Huston having failed to comply with said decree, this indenture made this 16th day of July 1824 between George F. Pope, commissioner appointed by said decree for and on behalf of the said Maxwell Huston of the one part and Joseph L. McGee of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said George F. Pope, commissioner as aforesaid, for and in consideration of the said decree, and in obedience thereto, hath granted, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant, release, convey and confirm unto the said Joseph L. McGee, his heirs and assigns forever the following described lot or parcel of ground situate in the town of Shepherdsville, and being a part of an half acre lot known in the original plan of said town by number five, and by number 56 in the new plan thereof, to wit, all that part of said lot contained in the following bounds, vizt.
Beginning at the southeast corner of the original lot fronting Main Street, thence North 6 1/2° East the course of the town lots and Main Street to James Burk's part of said original lot, thence with Burk's line to the line of Elizabeth Crow's, formerly Elizabeth Skyler's lot, thence with her line to her corner, thence with Water Street to the beginning.
To have and to hold the said lot of ground with all the appurtenances unto the said Joseph L. McGee, his heirs &c forever. And the said George F. Pope, commissioner as aforesaid, for and on behalf of the said Maxwell Huston, doth covenant and agree to and with the said Joseph L. McGee, his heirs &c that the said Maxwell Huston will and his heirs shall warrant and forever defend the said lot of land and appurtenances from himself and themselves, and all and every person or persons claiming or to claim the same by, from, through or under him and them to the said Joseph L. McGee, his heirs &c, but not against the claim or claims of any other person or persons whatsoever, the said commissioner only conveying the said lot on behalf of the said Maxwell Huston by a quit claim deed.
