Thomas McGee to Maxwell Huston - Half of Shepherdsville Lot 56

While most original Shepherdsville lots were sold as whole lots, the one sitting at the corner of Main and Water Streets (originally numbered as #5, and later as #56) was divided in half, with Thomas McGee purchasing the southern half, as shown below, and John Scott the northern part.

After purchasing the half-lot on 3 Mar 1817, McGee sold it two days later to Maxwell Huston, as shown below. It is not yet clear how long Huston owned the half-lot, but by 7 Oct 1828 it was in the hands of Joseph McGee who then sold it to Richard P. Simmons.

This indenture made this fifth day of March in the year of our Lord 1817 between Thomas McGee of Jefferson County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Maxwell Huston of the County of Bullitt and state aforesaid of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said Thomas McGee for and in consideration of the sum of $400 current money in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said Maxwell Huston and his heirs &c forever the following lot or parcel of land situate in the town of Shepherdsville and being part of a half acre lot known by the number five in the original plan of said town, and number 56 in the new plan of said town, to wit, all that part of said lot lying withen the following bounds, viz.

Beginning at the southeast corner of the original lot fronting Water Street, running thence North 6 1/2° East the course of said street to the corner of James Burks' part of said original lot, thence with Burks' line to the line of Elizabeth Crow's, formerly Elizabeth Styles' lot, then with her line to her corner, thence with Water Street to the beginning together with all and singular the improvements and advantages to the said lot and belonging or in any wise appertaining.

To have and to hold the said lot as before described together with the appurtenances to the same belonging unto the said Maxwell Huston, his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns to and for his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And the said Thomas McGee for himself, his heirs, executors, and assigns doth covenant, promise and agree to and with the said Maxwell Huston that the before described lot or parcel of land and appurtenances he wil and his heirs, executors and administrators shall forever warrant and defend to him the said Maxwell Huston and his heirs &c and that the same now is and forever shall be free and clear of all right and title of dower hereby warranting the same to the said Huston, his heirs &c against the claims of the heirs of John McGee and all and every other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Thomas McGee hath set his hand and seal the day and year first above mentioned. [signed by Thomas McGee]
