David Leitch sold 156 acres of land on the waters of Broad Run to Thomas Anderson on 1 Apr 1794 while it was still a part of Jefferson County. Later, Anderson's heirs sold the land to Thomas Russell Sr. Then, as shown below, in 1840, Thomas Russell Sr. sold 6.5 acres of his land to his son Thomas Jr. and his son-in-law William C. Short where they were operating a grocery store.

This indenture made and entered into this 10th day of April 1840 by and between Thomas Russell and Charity his wife of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the one part, and William C. Short and Thomas Russell Jr. of the county and state aforesaid of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said Thomas Russell and Charity his wife for and in consideration of the sum of $162 good and lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid by the said William C. Short and Thomas Russell Jr., the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, and sold, and do by these presents grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Short and Russell a certain tract or parcel of land situate in Bullitt County on Broad Run, being a part of said Thomas Russell's 156 1/2 acre tract of land adjoining the tract of land deeded by Thomas Conn to Lewis Jones and the tract of land sold by Nelson King Jr. sold to said Jones, and upon the said Short and Thomas Russell Jr. have erected a grocery and storehouse, and which tract of land is bounded as follows to-wit.
Beginning at two beeches, Jones and Russell's corner, and running South 80° eEast 54 poles to a large poplar standing in the line between Jones and Russell, which is made a corner between the said Russell and said Short and Thomas Russell Jr., thence North 10° East 19 poles to a stone, another corner between the parties, thence North 80° West 54 poles to a stone near a beech on a line of Jones' 102 acre survey, another corner between the parties, thence South 10° West 19 poles to the beginning, containing 6 1/2 of of an acre and fraction.
To have, and to hold the said, described a lot or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said William C. Short and Thomas Russell Jr. and their heirs to the only proper use, benefit and behoof of the said Short and Russell and their heirs forever. And the said Thomas Russell, and Charity his wife doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said William C. Short and Thomas Russell Jr. that the land hereby bargained sold and conveyed they will and their heirs shall warrant and forever defend the title thereof unto the said William C. Short and Thomas Russell Jr., their heirs, executors, administrators or assigns from the claim of them the said Thomas Russell and Charity Russell his wife, their heirs and from the claim of all other persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same. In testimony whereof the said Thomas Russell and Charity Russell his wife have hereto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first before written. (signed) Thomas Russell Sr.
