David Leitch sold 156 acres of land on the waters of Broad Run to Thomas Anderson on 1 Apr 1794 while it was still a part of Jefferson County. Later, Anderson's heirs sold the land to Thomas Russell Sr. Then in 1840, Thomas Russell Sr. sold 6.5 acres of his land to his son Thomas Jr. and his son-in-law William C. Short where they were operating a grocery store. On 4 May 1853, Thomas Jr. sold his share of the property to Short, as shown below.

This indenture made and entered into this the fourth day of May 1853 by and between Thomas Russell and Rhoda, his wife of the county of Jefferson and state of Kentucky of the first part and William C. Short of the county of Bullitt and state aforesaid of the second part.
Witnesseth that the said Thomas Russell and Rhoda his wife for and in consideration of the sum of $350 good and lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath this day granted, bargained and sold, and doth by these presents grant, bargain and sell all of their undivided interest in a certain tract or parcel of land situated in Bullitt County and state aforesaid on the waters of Broad Run, it being the same tract and parcel of land deeded to William C. Short and Thomas Russell Jr. by Thomas Russell Sr., containing by survey 6 1/2 and a fraction acres.
To have and to hold with its appurtenances thereunto forever, and we furthermore warrant and defend from us, our heirs, and the claims of all other persons, unto the said William C. Short, his heirs or assigns as witness our hands this day and date above written. (signed) Thomas Russell, Rhoda Russell
