On 6 Mar 1854, Joseph P. Simmons of Louisville sold parts of Shepherdsville lots 23 and 24 to William Shane and John S. Smith. Smith died prior to 15 Jan 1855 when Shane and Woodford McDowell were granted administration of his estate. Then, as shown below, by court order, the property passed into the hands of Shane who sold it to Robert Joyce who gave it to Thomas Joyce. The deed below completes this transaction.

This adventure made this 20th day of July July 1860 between William Shane by Robert F Samuels commissioner of the first part and Thomas Joyce of the second part, all of Bullitt County Kentucky.
Witness that whereas in a suit in equity pending in the Bullitt circuit court, wherein Nicolas Simmons is plaintiff and Thomas Joyce and others are defendants, the court did by its order and decree dated the sixth day of July 1860 order that William Shain convey unto Thomas Joyce on or before the sixth day of April term 1860 the tavern house and appurtenances and stables being situated on lots No. 23 and 24 in Shepherdsville; and on his failure to convey appointed Robert F. Samuels commissioner to make said conveyance. Now this indenture, witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of $1150 secured to be paid on the 25th day of December 1855 and which is this day paid by Thomas Joyce, they the party of the first part doth bargain and sell unto the party of the second part of lots No. 23 and 24 including the tavern house and other houses and stables and appurtenances.
To have and to hold the same unto the party of the second part and his heirs and assigns against the claim of the party of the first part and his heirs as fully as by law said commissioner can warrant without incurring any individual responsibility on said commissioner. Witness the hand and seal of said commissioner.
