Ellen Wright to Samuel Carrothers - One-half Acre Land Lease Extension

On 19 Sep 1872, Ellen Wright and James C. Wright together leased a tract of their land to Samuel Carrothers who was operating a distillery on the land. This appears, from a later deed, to be "a strip of 1/2 acre of ground, part of a tract of 350 acres of land in Bullitt County, Kentucky, conveyed by William Polk to James and Joseph H. Wright, said strip fronting on the west side of the turnpike 420 feet and running back 55 feet at one end and 50 feet at the other."

Know all men by these presents that I Ellen Wright of the city of Louisville, County of Jefferson and state of Kentucky, owner of the lands and houses on which the distillery operated by Samuel Carrothers and Company is located, being a piece of land lying on the south side of the Louisville and Bardstown Turnpike Road and about 2 1/2 miles from Mt. Washington, Bullitt County, Kentucky, and bounded as follows viz.

Beginning at a stake in the south side of said Turnpike Road and about 20 feet from the northeast corner of the bonded warehouse, thence running a westerly course with said Turnpike Road 420 feet to a stake, thence in a southerly direction and at right angles with said Turnpike Road 55 feet to a stake, thence in an easterly direction, 420 feet to a stake, thence in a northerly direction 55 feet to the beginning corner, containing 22,050 feet or 1/2 acre and upon which the distillery and bonded warehouse heretofore operated by Samuel Carrothers and Company is located, do hereby covenant and agree that the said land and premises may be used by the said Samuel Carrothers and company for distillery purposes, subject to the laws and regulations governing distilleries, and in case of forfeiture of distillery or any part thereof do hereby expressly stipulate that the lien of the United States for taxes and penalties shall have priority over other titles and in case of the forfeiture of the distillery premises or any part there of the title of the land shall rest in the United States discharged from all right, title claim or demand on their behalf and free from all encumbrances whatsoever.
