Leven Wilcoxon to Archibald Magruder and William Marquess - 542 Acres

On 13 May 1797, Paul Froman sold 653 acres of his 938 acre tract on the waters of Long Lick Creek to Leven Wilcoxon. Almost immediately, Wilcoxon sold 542 acres of this tract to Archibald Magruder and William Maquess as shown in the shaded area on the drawing below

This indenture made this 13th day of May in the year of our Lord 1797 between Leven Wilcoxon and Mary his wife of the county of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part and Archibald Magruder and William Marquess of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Leven Wilcoxon and Mary his wife for and in consideration of two hundred pounds current money of the state aforesaid to them in hand paid by the said Archibald Magruder and William Marquess the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said Leven Wilcoxon and Mary his wife forever exonerate have bargained and sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Archibald Magruder and William Marquess, their heirs and assigned forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being on the waters of Long Lick Creek in Bullitt County and State of Kentucky part of Paul Froman's nine hundred and thirt-eight acre survey. Beginning at two white oaks, a dogwood and black locust thence South 85° West 325 poles to two white oaks on a drain near a large bald knob, thence North 5° West 200 poles to two beeches, thence North 55° East 138 poles to two dogwoods, thenceSouth 50° East 65 poles to a poplar and black gum, thence North 40° East 222 poles to an elm and buckeye, thence South 5° East 375 poles to the beginning with the appurtenances. To have and to hold the said 542 acres of land with all and singular the appurtenances to the said Archibald Magruder and William Marquess, their heirs and assigns to them and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever, and the said Leven Wilcoxon and Mary his wife to and with the said Archibald Magruder and William Marquess their heirs and assigns, do covenant and agree that they will warrant and defend the said 542 acres of land with all and singular the appurtenances aforesaid unto the said Archibald Magruder and William Marquess, their heirs and assigns forever from the claim or demand of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said Leven Wilcoxon and Mary his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year aforesaid. (signed) Leven Wilcoxon, Mary Wilcoxon. We the subscribers do certify that we have privately examined the above named Mary Wilcoxon and that she doth acknowledge this indenture to be her free and voluntary act and deed and that she was not persuaded or compelled to it by her husband, the said Leven Wilcoxon.
