After Benjamin Oxley purchased 16+ acres from Wilhite Carpenter and another 4+ adjoining acres from Lorenzo Hoglan in 1857, he had the combined ground laid out in lots that was destined to become known as Oxley's Addition to Shepherdsville. As Oxley was living in Missouri at the time of these sales, the transaction was handled by his brother-in-law, James H. Oliver.

Among these lots were two numbered 44 and 45 located on the south side of Depot Street near its eastern terminal. Oxley sold these two lots to Emmanuel Lewis on 3 Jun 1858.
Emmanuel and Paulina Lewis sold the lots to Charles A. Brooks for $50 on 28 Mar 1872. Charles and Candace Brooks sold the lots to J. W. Thompson & John H. West on 18 Jan 1873.
Thompson and West sold them to Riley Ducker for $40 and a bay horse on 31 Dec 1873, as shown below. It appears that Ducker failed to satisfy the lien held against the lots, and Thompson sued in Circuit Court which ordered the lots sold to pay the debt. Thompson was the purchaser of the lots on 2 Oct 1876.
J. W. Thompson then sold the two lots to G. T. Dawson on 10 Jul 1885.
