Lorenzo Hoglan to Benjamin F. Oxley - 4+ Acres

On 29 Sep 1857, Benjamin F. Oxley of Missouri purchased land adjoining Shepherdsville from Lorenzo Hoglan, as shown below, and also land from Wilhite Carpenter as shown on another page. These two tracts were combined into what became known as Oxley's Addition to Shepherdsville.

This indenture made this 29th day of September 1857 between Lorenzo Hoglan and Ann his wife of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the first part and Benjamin F. Oxley of the State of Missouri of the second part.

Witnesseth that the party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of $224 cash in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, they the party of the first part hath granted, bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant, bargain and sell unto the party of the second part his heirs and assigns the following tract of land adjoining the town of Shepherdsville which is bounded as follows.

Beginning at a stake northeast corner of the town of Shepherdsville in Wilhite Carpenter's line, thence with his line North 7 1/2° East 52 poles, 11 links to a stake in Pope's line, thence with Pope's line North 37° West (for 35°) West 28 poles, 8 links to a stake in said line 28 feet from the center of the Louisville & Nashville Rail Road, thence with said Rail Road South 11°30' West 58 poles to a stake within 28 feet from the center of said Rail Road in a line of a 2 1/2 acre lot conveyed by Shepherd, thence with said lot South 82 1/2° East (for 83 1/2°) 4 poles, 16 links to the northeast corner of said lot, thence with said lot South 7 1/2° West (for 6 1/2°) 12 poles, 10 inches to the corner of the 2 1/2 acres, and in a line of the town of Shepherdsville, it being North 7 1/2° East (for 6 1/2°) 80 feet from the northeast corner of the town lot No. 14 on Minervas Alley, thence with the town line South 82 1/2° (for 83 1/2°) East 14 poles 17 links to the beginning, containing four acres, one rood and 37 poles.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land unto the said Benjamin F. Oxley, his heirs and assigns against the claims of the party of the first part and their heirs and against the claims of all persons claiming or to claim the same.

In witness whereof the party of the first part hath hereto set their hands and seals the day and year first written.
