Seth Thornberry to Daniel Thornberry - Part of Shepherdsville Lot 56

While most original Shepherdsville lots were sold as whole lots, the one sitting at the corner of Main and Water Streets (originally numbered as #5, and later as #56) was divided in half, with Thomas McGee purchasing the southern half, and John Scott the northern part

On 25 Sep 1798, Scott Sr. deeded part of the half-lot to his son John Scott Jr. It is confusing to read, but apparently Scott Sr. had already sold parts of the half-lot to others including perhaps Zachariah DeWitt and Isaac Pomroy who then sold their shares to James Burks.

It appears that these shares, perhaps along with the rest of the half-lot came into the hands of John Burks who sold the ground to Seth B. Thornberry, as shown below. Seth would later mortgage the ground to Abraham Field before selling it to Daniel Thornberry, as shown below. Daniel would later sell the land to Abraham Field


Bullitt County Deed Book C, Pages 392-393

This indenture made this 28th day of July in the year of our Lord 1817 between Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part, and Daniel Thornberry of the same county and state of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife have bargained and sold to the said Daniel Thornberry a certain lot of ground on which they now live, lying and being in Shepherdsville, known as part of lot No. 56, for and in consideration of the sum of $700, the receipt whereof the said Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife doth hereby acknowledge and forever acquit the said Daniel Thornberry; and they the said Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife doth hereby covenant and agree for themselves, their heirs and executors to warrant and defend the aforesaid lot of ground supposed to be nearly an half lot, together with the improvements thereto belonging unto the said Daniel Thornberry, his heirs and executors against the claim of them the said Seth B. Thornberry and wife, and also against the claim of any person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said Seth B. and Polly Thornberry hereunto set their hands and affix their seals the day and year above written. [signed by the grantors]
