John Scott Jr. to James Halbert - Shepherdsville Lot 22

John Scott Jr. had purchased Shepherdsville lot #22 from Daniel Wilson in 1798. After moving to Louisiana, he sold it to James Halbert as shown below. Halbert later sold it to Thomas Joyce.


Bullitt County Deed Book C, Pages 361-362

This indenture made this 19th day of August in the year of our Lord 1816 between John Scott Jr. of Washington County and state of Louisiana of the one part and James Halbert of Bullitt County and state of Kentucky of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said John Scott Jr. for and in consideration of the sum of $67 current money of Kentucky to him in hand paid by the said Halbert, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge and further acquit and discharge the said Halbert, hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said James Halbert and his heirs forever a certain half acre lot in the town of Shepherdsville known in the first plan thereof by the number 23, and being the same lot which said Scott purchased from Daniel Wilson, the deed for which is duly recorded in the Clerk's office of the Bullitt County Court.

To have and to hold the said lot and all the advantages belonging to it unto the said James Halbert, his heirs and assigns forever to and for his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And the said John Scott Jr. covenants and agrees to and with the said James Halbert he will forever warrant and defend to the said Halbert and his heirs and that the same now is and forever hereafter shall remain free and clear of all right and title of dower. In witness whereof the said John Scott Jr. hath set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. (signed) John (his x mark) Scott.
