On 19 Jun 1866, Thomas Joyce sold his steam, saw and grist mill, and lots No. 21 and 22, to Alexander Longmuer and William N. White, keeping a lien on the property to insure they paid the necessary payments. When they failed to do so, he he sued and recovered his property.

Whereas on the 19th June 1866 Thomas Joyce of Bullitt County, Kentucky sold and conveyed by deed to Alexander Longmuir and William N. White of same county and state for the sum of $2000 of which sum $500 was paid down and receipted by Thomas Joyce in said deed (deed recorded in Deed Book Q, pages 283 & 284) his the said Joyce's grist mill and lots No. 21 & 22 on which the same was located and its appurtenances, and whereas the said Thomas Joyce has instituted a suit in the Bullitt Circuit Court to enforce his lien and for judgment on note of $500, the second payment on said steam mill &c, and now the parties having come to an agreement and understanding, the said Joyce to take back mill &c upon the conditions herein after named, and the said Longmuir and White to convey the same back to the said Joyce.
Now therefore this indenture witnesseth that the said Alexander Longmuir and his wife and William N. White and Mary E. his wife of the state of Kentucky hereby grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Thomas Joyce and his heirs and assigns forever with general warranty title the steam grist mill and lots No. 21 & 22 and the appurtenances thereunto belonging named in the deed from said Joyce to them and recorded in Deed Book Q, pages 283 & 284 and situated in the town of Shepherdsville, Kentucky and the consideration of this conveyance are that the said Thomas Joyce is t ogive up the three notes of $500 each now unpaid to these grantors and also allow the said Longmuir and White to take from said mill 68 flour barrels, the said Joyce is to dismiss th said suit in the Circuit Court at his Joyce's costs. Joyce takes the mill as it is. In witness whereof the grantors hereunto set their hands and seals this 22nd day of July, A.D. 1867.
