On 19 Jun 1866, Thomas Joyce sold his steam, saw and grist mill, and lots No. 21 and 22, to Alexander Longmuer and William N. White, keeping a lien on the property to insure they paid the necessary payments. When they failed to do so, he he sued and recovered his property.

This indenture made and entered into this 19th day of June 1866, by and between Thomas Joyce and Zilpha his wife, of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the first part, and Alexander Longmuer, William N. White of the same county and state of the second part.
Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of $2000, $500 of which amount is in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, $500 due in 12 months from this date with interest from date, $500 due in 24 months from date with interest from date, $500 due in 36 months from date with interest, for which three amounts notes have this day been executed and a lien retained to secure their payment, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said parties of the second part his steam, saw and grist mill, and lots No. 21 and 22, and buildings thereon, situated, and all the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining.
Said lots have following boundary. Beginning at the northeast intersection of Plumb and Second Streets, thence with Second Street 198 feet, 10 inches to School Alley; thence north with School Alley 198 feet, 11 inches to alley between Second and Third Street; thence westward with said alley 198 feet 10 inches to Plumb Street; thence southwardly with Plumb Street 198 feet, 11 inches to the beginning.
To have and to hold the above described property to them the said parties of the second part equally and to their heirs or assigns forever. And the said parties of the first part hereby covenant to and with the said parties of the second part that they will and their heirs shall forever warrant and defend the title to the property hereby conveyed to them the said parties of the second part against the claim of all and every person claiming the same.
