Judith Russell to Thomas Russell Sr. - Dower Rights

On 8 Nov 1790, Nicholas Russell Sr. purchased from David Leach 153 3/4 acres located along Broad Run in what was then in Jefferson County, Kentucky. In 1824, Russell sold about 16 acres of the farm to the heirs of James Lashbrook. The farm was declared to be 136 3/4 acres when Nicholas' heirs deeded it to Thomas Russell Sr., also an heir. Then in 1833 Nicholas' widow Judith Russell deeded her dower rights to the farm to Thomas in exchange for his care for her, as shown below.

I do transfer, alien and convey to said Thomas Russell all the right, title, claim and interest which I now have or can have under any circumstances whatever by dower right or otherwise to all the estate both personal and real of my late husband Nicholas Russell dec'd and hereby warrant and defend the title thereof against all persons claiming under or through me to said Thomas Russell. In testimony whereof I subscribe my name and affix my seal this twelfth day of January 1833. (signed) Judith (her x mark) Russell.
