James Taylor to Elijah Wright - 25.5 Acres

In February 1800, Elijah Wright purchased his first Bullitt County land, 150 acres in eastern part of the county from Jesse Hughes, that had been part of the original 14,000 acres claimed by David Leitch. Then in 1813 he purchased an additions 25.5 acres from James Taylor as shown below. And in 1818 he bought another 20.75 acres from Moses C. Hough.

This indenture made this 23rd day of February in the year of our Lord 1813 between James Taylor of the County of Campbell and State of Kentucky of the one part, and Elijah Wright of the County of Bullitt and State aforesaid of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said James Taylor for and in consideration of the sum of $25.50 current money to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and forever acquit and discharge, the said Elijah Wright, his heirs, executors and administrators doth by these presents grant, bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto the said Elijah Wright, his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Bullitt and State aforesaid on the waters of Salt River containing 25.5 acres, be the same more or less, and being part of a tract of land of 14,000 acres patented to David Leitch and devised by him to this then wife Keturah who has intermarried with the said James Taylor, and who conveyed the said tract to Washington Berry and Alice his wife who has reconveyed the same to the said James Taylor. The said 25.5 acres is bounded as followeth, to-wit.

Beginning at a hickory, beginning corner to Solomon Connell's land, thence North 14'30' West 100 poles to a white oak, thence South 25°30' West 15 poles to a buckeye, white oak and honey locust, thence South 19° East 32 poles to a stone planted in the west side of Bairdstown road, thence South 49° West 14 poles to a buckeye and ironwood, thence North 68°30' West 56 poles to a sycamore, beech and Spanish oak in a line of Stringer's land, thence South 12°30' West 32 poles to two elms, a corner of Greenwell's land, thence to the beginning, together with all and singular the appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise appertaining, and the reversions, remainders, and profits thereof, and all the estate right, title, interest, property, claim and demand of him the said James Taylor of in and to the same.

To have and to hold the lands hereby conveyed with all and singular the premises and every part and parcel thereof with every of the appurtenances unto the said Elijah Wright, his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Elijah Wright, his heirs and assigns forever. And the said James Taylor and his heirs all and singular the premises hereby bargained and sold unto the said Elijah Wright, his heirs and assigns against him the said James Taylor and his heirs, and all and every other person or persons whatever claiming under him doth and will warrant and forever defend by these presents and Katurah L. Taylor, wife of said James doth hereby relinquish her right of dower in this premises, and in case the said land is lost by any superior claim the said Taylor is to refund the purchase money of such part of said land without interest to said Wright. In witness whereof they the said James Taylor and Katurah his wife hath hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. (signed by grantors)
