In February 1800, Elijah Wright purchased his first Bullitt County land, 150 acres in eastern part of the county, that had been part of the original 14,000 acres claimed by David Leitch.

This indenture made this eighth day of February in the year of our Lord 1800 between Jesse Hughes and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Jefferson on the one part and Elijah Wright of the County of Bullitt of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said Jesse Hughes and Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of 75 pounds current money of Kentucky to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, have given, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said Elijah Wright, his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situate, lying and being on the waters of Salt River in the County of Bullitt containing by survey 150 acres, being part of a survey of 14,000 acres made for David Leitch.
Beginning at a hickory, corner to Solomon Connell's tract, thence North 10° West 100 poles to an elm, ash and white oak, thence North 80° East 240 poles to a beech and hickory, thence South 10° East 100 poles to a white oak and ash, thence South 80° West 240 poles to the beginning, together with all and singular the hereditaments &c appertaining.
To have and to hold the said 150 acres of land and all and singular the premises to the same belonging or appertaining to him the said Elijah Wright, his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns forever, and the said Jesse Hughes and his wife Elizabeth doth covenant and agree well and truly to warrant and defend the said 150 acres of land agains him the said Hughes and their heirs or assigns, and against all and every other person or persons whatever unto him the said Elijah Wright, his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns forever.
