County Government to Wilhite Carpenter - Old Clerk's Office and Lot

On 28 May 1881, the County Government sold the old county and circuit court clerks' office and lot to Wilhite Carpenter as shown below. It was located on lot 25 at the intersection of Main and Second Streets. Carpenter first sold the western half of the building and lot to F. P. Straus on 30 Aug 1881. He later sold the remainder to Straus on 27 Nov 1883.

Whereas by an act of the legislature of Kentucky passed and approved on the 10 February 1872, authorizing the Bullitt County Court to sell and convey the old county and circuit court clerks' office and the lot on which they are situated, and to appoint a commissioner to make sale and convey to the purchaser the property aforesaid, and said court appointed S. A. McKay, W. carpenter and W. Phelps commissioners to make sale of said property on a credit of six and twelve months &c, and it appearing that the commissioners followed the orders of said court in advertising and selling said property and that they sold the same on the 20th day of January 1873 at public sale to the highest bidder when Carpenter being such bidder, bought same at the price of $525; and on the 16th day of February 1874 the commissioners reported such sale to the court, was confirmed by the court and the said court thereupon appointed R. J. Meyler commissioner to convey said purchaser, W. Carpenter the property aforesaid, and it appears the purchase money has all been paid, now therefore in consideration of the premises and the payment of the purchase money the Bullitt County Court by R. J. Meyler, commissioner, doth grant, bargain, sell, convey and deliver unto said W. Carpenter the property sold and bought by him as aforesaid, viz.

The old county and circuit court clerks' offices and lot on which they are situated, which said offices and lot are situated in the town of Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky on the corner of Second and Main Streets.

To have and to hold the same unto the said W. Carpenter, his heirs and assigns forever. Witness the hand of R. J. Meyler, commissioner for and on the behalf of Bullitt County Court, this 20th day May 1881.
