On 28 May 1881, the County Government sold the old county and circuit court clerks' office and lot to Wilhite Carpenter. It was located on lot 25 at the intersection of Main and Second Streets. Carpenter first sold the western half of the building and lot to F. P. Straus on 30 Aug 1881, as shown below. He later sold the remainder to Straus on 27 Nov 1883.

This indenture made and entered into the 30th day of August 1881 by and between Wilhite Carpenter and Letitia Carpenter, his wife of the first part and F. P. Straus of the second part, all of Bullitt County Kentucky.
Witnesseth that the first parties for and in consideration of $275 cash in hand paid by the second party, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, and sold, and hereby convey with covenant of general warranty unto said F. P. Straus, his heirs and assigns forever the following described real estate situated in Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky, viz. the western end of the old county and circuit court clerks' offices and the lot on which said western end is situated, being part of the same property conveyed to the first party by the Bullitt County Court on the 20th May 1881, see deed recorded in Bullitt County Court Clerk's office in Deed Book X, page 169-170. The property hereby conveyed is the end of said building and lot formerly used as the county clerk's office and the same now used and occupied by F. P. Straus as his law office. Said lot is on Main and Second Street northeast of the courthouse.
