Wilhite Carpenter - Miss Ann Grant - 50 Acres

In 1863, Wilhite Carpenter and his wife sold 50 acres of land to Miss Ann E. Grant of Louisville. This land lay just east of Shepherdsville and adjoined the land they had previously sold to Benjamin Oxley. It also adjoined the Paroquet Spring tract. The deed is transcribed below.

This indenture made this 21st day of March 1863 by and between Wilhite Carpenter and wife of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the first part and Miss Ann E. Grant of th city of Louisville, County of Jefferson and state aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of $1000 in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by party of first part, and the said party of the first part hath bargained, granted and sold, and by these presents doth grant, sell and convey to party of the second part, her heirs and assigns forever, a certain piece or tract of land in Bullitt County adjoining the town of Shepherdsville and bounded as follows.

Beginning at a point 37 feet northwest of the northwest corner of the Seminary lot, a corner made in a sale of land to B. F. Oxley by W. Carpenter and running with said line to the Paroquet Springs tract, thence with said Springs tract to Salt River, thence down Salt River to the old ferry road, thence down the river at seven feet perpendicular height above low water mark to East Street, thence with East Street to the southwest corner of the Seminary lot, thence with the Seminary lot with its meanders to the beginning, containing fifty acres, more or less.

And party of the first part doth forever warrant and defend the title herein made to party of the second part, her heirs and assigns, against the lawful claim or claims of all persons whomsoever. And Letitia Ann Carpenter, wife of said party of the first part, whose name is hereunto annexed doth hereby relinquish her right of dower. Witness our hands and seals this day and date above written. State of Kentucky, Bullitt County Sct. I Charles R. Samuels, clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid, do certify that on the day of the date hereof the foregoing deed was produced to me in my county and acknowledged and delivered by Wilhite Carpenter and Letitia A. Carpenter to be their act and deed, for the purposes therein mentioned which was ordered to be recorded, which is truly done in my office this 1st day of April 1863. (signed) C. R. Samuels, clerk.
