William Shawler to Richard Brashear - 122 Acres

On 5 Sep 1857, John Hoskins sold 122 acres along Crooked Creek to William Shawler. It appears that Shawler likely sold the same farm to Richard Brashear on 31 Jan 1860, as shown below.

This indenture made and entered into this 31st day of January 1860 between William Shawler and Lucinda his wife of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the first part and Richard Brashare of the County and State aforesaid of the second part.

Witnesseth that the said William Shawler and wife, for and in consideration of the sum of $1065 in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Richard Brashare, his heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being situated in the County of Bullitt on Crooked Creek, and being part of Cuthbert Harrison's 5000 acre survey, and bounded as follows (to wit).

Beginning at three hickories, one being down, it being a corner to Luke Howlett, thence with his line South 82° East (called in J. Hoskins' deed N 82° E) 74 poles and nine links to two beeches on the bank of Crooked Creek, corner to Hardin Masden's land on L. Howlett's line, thence N 34° E 4 1/4 poles to an elm at low water mark, it being H. Masden's line, meandering said creek at low water mark on south side of the same; thence with his Masden's line up said creek N 67° E 7 poles and 7 links to a stake; thence N 40° E 15 poles and 10 links to a stake; thence N 57° East 6 3/4 poles to stake; then thence N 79° East 6 poles to stake; thence N 86° E 22 poles to stake; thence South 75° East 4 poles to an elm and white oak; thence S 67° E 12 poles to an elm and sycamore; thence S 57° E 6 poles to a beech and elm; thence N 85° E 14 poles to a small sycamore; thence N 43° E 18 poles to a beech and white oak and elm upon a high yellow bank and being corner to said Masden; thence wth his line again South 65 1/4° E (for 60°) 49 poles to three beeches on the south bank of Crooked Creek, corner to said Masden; thence dow the creek with its meanders at low water mark North 18 poles, thence N 36° E 30 poles, thence N 53° W 8 poles, N 45 1/2° W 21 1/4 poles, N 55° W 14 poles to a double sycamore and two elms on the south bank of the creek; thence N 58° 40' (for 57°) W passing the mouth of Well Run and crossing the creek three times 102 1/2 poles to a beech and sugar tree, corner to Luke Starks; thence N 59° 40' W 52 poles to two white oaks and two beeches; thence with Stallings' line S 23° W 158 1/2 poles to the beginning containing 121 acres two roods and 24 poles, be the same more or less.

To have and to hold the land here by conveyed with the appurtenances unto the said William Shawler and Lucinda, his wife for their selves, their heirs, executors and administrators the said tract of land and appurtenances unto the said Brashear, his heirs and assigns, and the said Shawler and wife further covenants and agrees with the said R. Brashear to warrant and forever defend the same tract or parcel of land and appurtenances unto him the said Richard Brashare, his heirs, executors and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons claiming by, through or under them and against the claim or claims of all and every person whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same.
