Charles R. Samuels to Michael L. Troutman - September 1862

In September 1857, Charles R. Samuels petitioned the Bullitt County Court to purchase 100 acres of unclaimed land, as shown here.
"Charles R. Samuels made application to purchase 100 acres of vacant land in this county. It is ordered that Henry S. Cochran and John S. Masden be appointed commissioners to value said 100 acres of land; and said commissioners being in court value said 100 acres at $.20 per acre and said C. R. Samuels paid the clerk $20, the valuation. It is ordered that the surveyor of Bullitt County do lay off and survey For said Charles R. Samuels said 100 acres of land if found to be vacant." [Bullitt County Order Book I, page 29, 7 Sep 1857]

This land lying near Cane Run and Wilson Creek was surveyed in November, and Samuels received his grant the following April. Then in April 1860 he and his wife sold a portion of the 100 acres to Casper Herps. This tract adjoined lands of Ephraim Napper, William Napper, James B. Pittman and a Mr. Waters.

Then in December 1862, they sold their remaining claim to this tract to Michael L. Troutman, as shown below.
