George L. Robards to Francis Maraman - 10 Acres

On 28 Jan 1818, Adam Shepherd sold 10 acres of the 600 acre survey of his father, Peter Shepherd, to George L. Robards. The part sold to Robards lay on the northeast corner of the main tract, as shown in this drawing. Robards would later sell the tract to Francis Maraman as shown below.

This indenture made and entered into this fifth day of February 1820 between George L. Robards and Nancy his wife of the one part and Francis Maraman of the other part, all of Bullitt County and State of Kentucky. Witnesseth that the said George L. Robards and Nancy his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money of Kentucky to them in hand paid by the said Maraman, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Francis Maraman and his heirs &c forever a certain lot of parcel of land containing by survey ten acres, be the same more or less, lying in said county of Bullitt on the south bank of Salt River and bounded as follows, vizt. Beginning at an elm on the bank of Salt River, running thence with the line of Adam Shepherd's survey of 600 acres, S 34° W, called 36° W, 66 2/3 poles to a small hickory, thence N 48° W 24 poles to a white oak and gum saplings, thence N 34° E 66 2/3 poles to a sycamore on the bank of the river, then up said river S 38° E 24 poles to the beginning, being the same land which was conveyed by Adam Shepherd to the said George L. Robards by deed bearing date the 28th day of January 1818, and duly recorded in the clerk's office of the Bullitt County Court.

To have and to hold said tract or parcel of land as before described to the said Francis Maraman, his heirs and assigns forever to and for his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever, and the said George L. Robards & Nancy his wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant, promise and agree to and with the said Francis Maraman and his heirs that the before described land and the appurtenances thereto belonging they will and their heirs shall forever warrant and defend against the claim of them, it being the intention of the said Robards and wife by this deed to relinquish all their right, title, interest and claim of, in and to the said land & premises to the said Maraman and his heirs. In testimony whereof the said George L. Robards and Nancy his wife have set their hands and seals the day and year aforesaid. (signed) George L. Robards, Nancy Robards.

Bullitt County Sct. I Daniel Halbert, Deputy Clerk of the County Court of Bullitt County, do certify that on this day George L. Robards & Nancy his wife came personally before me and acknowledged & delivered the within indenture of bargain and sale to be their act and deed, & the said Nancy, being examined by me separate and apart from her husband, relinquished her right of dower in and to the said land, and stated that she do so without the threat, persuasion or caution of her husband & of her own free will and accord, and that she did not wish to retract it and was willing the said deed may be recorded, whereupon I have truly recorded the same together with this certificate in my said office as required by law.
