Richard Simmons obtained 1000 acres between Salt River and Floyd's Fork from the surveys of Marsham Brashear, and sold parts of it to several people including this part to Mary Simmons. At the time, this was still part of Jefferson County.

This indenture made this 7th day of January 1795 between Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha of Nelson County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Mary Simmons of the same county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife for the consideration of the sum of five shillings to us in hand paid the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge & ourselves fully satisfied, have gave, granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said Mary Simmons, her heirs executors, administrators & assigns, a certain parcel or tract of land lying in Jefferson County between Floyd's Fork and Salt River, it being part of Marsham Brashear's settlement and preemption containing 127 acres. Beginning at Humphrey Simmons' westwardly corner at two sugar trees & walnut, running thence South 14° West 128 poles to a poplar, beech & elm, thence South 76° East 82 poles to three beech trees, thence South 14° West 10 poles to two beech & poplar, thence S 76° East 34 poles to locust & black walnut, thence North 14° East 50 poles to dogwood and ash, thence South 76° East 59 poles to a poplar and dogwood, thence North 14° East 88 poles to two white oaks & elm in Humphrey Simmons' line, thence North 76° West 176 poles with his line to the beginning. To have and to hold the said tract of land together with all & singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said Mary Simmons, her heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns forever and we the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha do hereby agree to warrant and defend the 127 acres of land against them and their heirs & against all & every person or persons whatever unto her the said Mary Simmons her heirs and assigns forever. At a court held for Jefferson County, 7th of July 1795. This indenture of bargain and sale from Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife to Mary Simmons was acknowledged by the said Richard Simmons and ordered to be recorded. Teste. Stephen Ormsby, Clerk
