Richard Simmons obtained 1000 acres between Salt River and Floyd's Fork from the surveys of Marsham Brashear, and sold parts of it to several people including this part to Griffin Simmons. At the time, this was still part of Jefferson County.

This indenture made this first day of January 1795 between Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha of Nelson County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Griffin Simmons of the aforesaid county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife for the consideration of the sum of five shillings to us in hand paid & ourselves fully satisfied, have gave, granted, bargained and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said Griffin Simmons, his heirs executors, administrators & assigns, a certain parcel or tract of land lying in Jefferson County between Floyd's Fork and Salt River, it being part of Marsham Brashear's settlement and preemption as followeth, to wit. Beginning at White corner on Salt River, thence North 14° East 300 poles with his line to two beeches, thence North 76° West 59 poles to a white oak by a glade, thence South 14° West 22 poles to H. Simmon's corner, thence North 76° West 30 poles to two white oaks and elm, thence South 14° West 88 poles to a poplar and dogwood, thence North 76° West 31 poles to White corner of millseat, thence South 14° West 50 poles to elm & walnut, thence North 76° West 62 poles to a beech & poplar corner to Mary Simmons, thence South 14° West 197 poles to Salt River, thence up said river binding thereon 186 poles to the beginning to have and to hold the said tract of land together with all & singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said Griffin Simmons, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns forever and we the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha do hereby agree to warrant and defend the above mentioned land containing 184 acres of land against them and their heirs & against all & every person or persons whoever unto him the said Griffin Simmons his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof we have hereunto set out hands & seals the day and year within mentioned. (signed) Richard Simmons, Tabitha Simmons.
At a court held for Jefferson County, 7th of July 1795. This indenture of bargain and sale from Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife to Griffin Simmons was acknowledged by the said Richard Simmons and ordered to be recorded. Teste. Stephen Ormsby, Clerk
