On 28 Nov 1782, John Helm and George May surveyed 400 acres for Thomas Philips. As best as we can tell, this survey would be located around the Brooks exit of I-65 today. He then sold the tract to Joseph Brooks. [link] This survey was #1 on the 1811 plat drawing by James Shanks, Bullitt County Surveyor, which is described on another page.

Surveyed for Thomas Philips 400 acres of land in Jefferson by virtue of a preemption warrant No. 160 on the waters of Floyd Fork; Beginning at [A] a Beech, two Hickories and a Black Oak about 100 poles from the Salt River Trace on the West Side and about 6 miles North of Bullitts Lick, thence N 6 degrees E 320 poles to [B] a Spanish oak & sundry other trees in a flat, thence E 202 poles to [C] a large Hickory in a green brier thicket, then South 6 degrees W 320 poles to [D] three Sugar Trees & a Walnut on the side of a ridge & on the South side of a creek, then West 202 poles to the Beginning.
