In 1813, Adam Shepherd sold a line of waterfront lots to John W. Beckwith and Frederic W. S. Grayson as a part of the sale of a stretch of the Salt River bed leading to a 150 acre tract where Beckwith and Grayson planned to later construct a forge. Following the deaths of both men, taxes became due on the affected lots (#65-76) and Henry F. Kalfus, town tax collector was authorized to sell the lots to collect the tax. This he did in 1829, selling all of them to Frederic Grayson Alexander as shown below. Also included in the sale were lots 79 and 80 which Beckwith had obtained as well.

This indenture made this 20th day of April 1829 between Henry F. Kalfus, collector of the town tax for the town of Shepherdsville in the county of Bullitt and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part, and Frederic Grayson Alexander of the county and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part.
Witnesseth that whereas the trustees of the town of Shepherdsville did by virtue of an act of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth aforesaid passed in February 1808 levy a tax on several lots and parts of lots and improvements thereon in said town and on the owners and occupiers thereof and thereafter did regularly appoint the aforesaid Henry F. Kalfus collector of said taxes due for the year 1827, and the said Kalfus by virtue of said appointment and an order of the said trustees made a pursuance of the law in such cases made and provided did regularly advertise certain lots and parts of lots and improvements thereon in said town for sale for the payment of the tax due thereon for the year 1827, the same not having been paid by the owners or occupiers thereof or any other person for them, and on the 2nd day of June 1827 in pursuance of said advertisement the said Kalfus, collector aforesaid, did expose to public sale in market avert the said lots and parts of lots, and Frederic G. Alexander purchased the following auctioned lots, to wit: numbers 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76 and 79 and 80, the property of the heirs of John Beckwith for the sum of one dollar and fifty cents, being the tax thereon which said sum the collector was on oath to collect of the owners of said lots.
Now in consideration of the premises and of the payment of the purchase money the said Henry F. Kalfus, collector as aforesaid by virtue of the power vested in him by virtue of the said act of assembly and order of the trustees hath this day granted, bargained and sold and by by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Frederic G. Alexander, his heirs &c the said lots of ground numbered as aforesaid and the said Kalfus, collector as aforesaid doth covenant to and with said Alexander, his heirs &c that he will forever warrant and defend to the said Alexander the said lots against the claim of the said John W. Beckwith's heirs and all persons claiming as them or under them. In testimony whereof the said Henry F. Kalfus, collector aforesaid, hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal this day and year above written. (signed) Henry F. Kalfus, Collector for the Trustees of Shepherdsville.
