On 6 Mar 1828, John Bate of Oldham County sold 300 acres to James Samuels that lay along the waters of Pond Creek including Cow Branch and Weaver's Run. This land had earlier be a part of John May's 6533 acre patent.

This indenture made this 6th day of March 1828 between John Bate of the county of Oldham, and state of Kentucky of the one part and James Samuels of the county of Bullitt and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Bate for and in consideration of the sum of $200 in coin of the United States to him in hand, paid by the said James Samuels, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has given, granted, bargained, sold, released, conveyed, and confirmed, and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain and sell, release, convey and confirm unto the said James Samuels and to his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land, situate, lying and being in Bullitt County on the waters of Pond Creek, being part of a survey of 6533 acres patented in the name of John May, bounded as follows, to wit.
Beginning in the lower line of John May's survey of 6533 acres where the Cow Branch crosses the same at two beeches, thence up the same with the meanders thereof to two beeches standing on the back line of May's survey aforesaid, thence with said line North 6° East to two beeches standing on the side of a ridge east of Weaver's Run, thence down the side of the said ridge South 77° West 101 poles to an ash and beech, thence South 65° West 64 poles to two beeches, thence South 51° West 70 poles to a beech, thence South 58° West 164 poles to two sugar trees standing in the lower line of said survey of 6533 acres, thence with the said line South 62° to the beginning, containing 300 acres, more or less.
To have and to hold the premises herein and hereby conveyed with all the appurtenances therein contained unto the said James Samuels and to his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use and behoof forever. And the said John Bate doth covenant with the said James Samuels that he will and his heirs, executors and administrators shall forever warrant and defend unto the said James Samuels, his heirs or assigns, the aforesaid tract of land against all persons whatsoever claiming or to claim the same. In witness whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands and seals this day and date above written.
[Both parties signed the deed, and their signatures were witnessed by Abraham Chappell, Aepha Hoskins, Maraman Paully, and Robert Miller. The deed was recorded in Bullitt County on 13 Sep 1828.]
