Town Trustees to James Halbert - Lot 9

On 22 Jan 1819, James Halbert received a deed to town lot #9 from the Shepherdsville town trustees. He was soon sell it to John Chaddic.

This indenture made this 22nd day of January 1819 between James Alexander, John Grayham and Charles Jones, trustees of the town of Shepherdsville in the county of Bullitt of the one part and James Halbert of the other part.

Whereas the said Halbert has on this day produced an order from Adam Shepherd, owner of the land on which said town hath been established, authorizing the trustees of said town to make a deed to him for half acre lot in the new plan of said town number nine, stating in said order that the consideration money had been fully paid to him by Moses Tyre of whom the said Halbert was assigne &c, now therefore this indenture witnesseth that the said Alexander, Jones and Grayham as trustees of the aforesaid town in pursuance of said order and by virtue of the power vested in them by law, hath bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Halbert and his heirs forever the said half acre lot number nine together with all the improvement and advantages to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining.

To have and to hold the said half acre lot number nine in the new plan of said town described as aforesaid to te said Halbert, his heirs and assigns to and for his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. and the said Alexander, Jones and Grayham, trustees of said town do covenant, promise and agree to and with the said Halbert and his heirs that the before described lot of land and appurtenances they will and their successors in office shall forever warrant and defend to him against the claim of the said trustees and the said Adam Shepherd and his heirs and all persons claiming under them or any of them.

In testimony whereof the said James Alexander, John Grayham and Charles Jones as trustees of said town have set their hands and seals the day and year aforesaid. (signed by trustees)
