Thornberrys to Peter Smith - 100 Acres

On 29 Jul 1817, Seth B. and Samuel Thornberry sold 100 acres to Peter Smith that lay on the waters of Cedar Creek, a tributary of Floyd's Fork. The deed is transcribed below.

This indenture made this 29th day of July in the year of our Lord, 1817 between Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife, and Samuel Thornberry of the county of Bullitt, and state of Kentucky of the one part and Peter Smith of the same county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $700 current money to them, the said Seth, Polly and Samuel in hand paid by the said Smith, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. They the said Seth, Polly and Samuel do part, bargain, sell and convey, and by these presents do part, bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Peter Smithand his heirs forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying in said County of Bullitt on Cedar Creek and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning where John Edwards' upper line crosses Cedar Creek at two sugar trees and a buckeye and running down said creek with the meanders thereof South 27° West 4 poles, South 2° West 40 poles, South 18° West 28 poles, South 57° West 36 poles, South 82° West 16 poles, North 75° West 34 poles, North 25° West 34 poles, North 22° West 22 poles, North 11° West 27 poles, North 88° West 24 poles, South 41° West 34 poles, North 80° West 21 poles to a poplar, white oak and dogwood on the bank of Cedar Creek, thence North 35° East 154 poles to an elm and two dogwoods in John Edwards' original line, and with said line South 55° East 108 poles to the beginning containing 100 acres, be the same more or less.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular the appurtenances unto him the said Peter Smith and his heirs &c forever. And they the said Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife and Samuel Thornberry for themselves, their heirs &c do hereby warrant and defend the said land and appurtenances to him the said Peter Smith and his heirs against the claim or all and every other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Seth B. Thornberry and Polly his wife and Samuel Thornberry have st their hands and seals the day and year aforesaid.
