Seth B. Thornberry to John Beckwith - 200 Acres

On 24 Jan 1813, Samuel Thornberry transferred ownership of 200 acres along Cedar Creek to his son Seth B. Thornberry. Then on 4 Jun 1817, Seth sold it to John Beckwith Sr. That deed is transcribed below.

This indenture made this fourth day of June in the year of our Lord 1817 between Seth B. Thornberry of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part and John Beckwith Sr. of the same county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thornberry for and in consideration of the sum of $500 current money of the United States to him in hand paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath given, granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain, sell and convey unto him the said John Beckwith Sr., his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Bullitt on Cedar Creek, a branch of Floyd's Fork containing 200 acres, be the same more or less, and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning at a black walnut and hickory trees on the bank of Cedar Creek and running thence North 35° East 150 poles to a white oak and poplar trees in John Edwards' original line, thence with said line South 55° East 238 poles to Cedar Creek, thence down said creek 434 poles to the beginning.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular its appurtenances to the said John Beckwith Sr., his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use and behoof, and the said Seth B. Thornberry for himself and his heirs the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said John Beckwith Sr. against the claims of every person whatsoever him the said Seth B. Thornberry will warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said Seth B. hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written. (signed) Seth B. Thornberry
