Original Shepherdsville Lots - Lot 24

On 9 Feb 1826, Jonathan Gore Jr. sold the southern half of Shepherdsville lot #24 to Rufus King Summers as shown in the transcribed deed just below. Then, in March 1827, Summers got another deed to the half lot from the town trustees as shown further down this page.


Bullitt County Deed Book F, Pages 118-119

This indenture made this ninth day of February 1826 between Jonathan Gore Jr. and Moriah his wife of the town of Shepherdsville, County of Bullitt, and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part, and Rufus King Summers of the same county and commonwealth of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Gore and wife for and in consideration of the sum of $75, being current money of the United States, in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and confirm unto the said Rufus King Summers, his heirs and assigns all that piece or lot or parcel of ground situate lying and being in the town of Shepherdsville, being the southern half part of lot number 24 in the new plan of said town of Shepherdsville, the original whole lot (of which the above conveyed is half) contained 99 feet, 5 inches front on Main Cross Street, and 198 feet, 11 inches back from said Cross Street.

And the half lot hereby conveyed contains 99 feet 5 inces on Main Street, and the same length on Main Cross Street, being the same half lot which was conveyed to the said Jonathan Gore Jr. by the sheriff of Bullitt under sale made by him under execution in the name of James Cox agains James Shanks' heirs, which deed is dated the 1st day of September 1825 and recorded in the Bullitt County Court Office in Deed Book F, folio 69 will more fully appear, and was also conveyed to said Gore by deed dated the 2nd September 1825 and made by Henry F. Kalfus, collector of the town tax or the town of Shepherdsville which is also recorded in said court in Deed Book F, folio 72 will appear.

With all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the lot or parcel of ground hereby conveyed with the appurtenances unto the said Rufus King Summers, his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Gore and wife for themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators do hereby warrant and defend the said lot of ground and appurtenances to him the said Rufus King Summers, his heirs and assigns against the claim of themselves and all pesons claiming by, through or under them, but not against any other person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said Gore and wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and date first above written. (signed) Jonathan Gore Jr., Moriah Gore.


Bullitt County Deed Book F, Page 303

This indenture made this fifteenth day of March 1827 between Abraham Field, George W. Jenkins and Mathew Wilson, trustees of the town of Shepherdsville in Bullitt County, Kentucky of the one part and Rufus K. Summers of the same county and state of the other part.

Witnesseth that whereas Adam Shepherd who was the proprietor of the land on which the said town of Shepherdsville was laid out, sold to James Shanks lot number 24 in the new plan of said town as will appear by reference to his order in favor of James Halbert to the trustees to convey the northern half of said lot recorded in the minute book of said trustees. And whereas also the southern half of said lot has been sold by Henry F. Kalfus, the collector of the town tax, for the taxes due on said part and Jonathan Gore Sr. became the purchaser. And the same part of said lot was sold by William Caldwell, deputy sheriff for James Alexander, sheriff of Bullitt County as the property of the heirs of James Shanks deceased by virtue of an execution in te name of James Cox against said heirs and representatives, and Jonathan Gore Sr. became the purchaser, and the said Gore Sr. has sold the said part of said lot to the said Rufus K. Summers which will more fully appear by reference to the deeds from the said Kalfus, collector as aforesaid and the said Caldwell, deputy sheriff as aforesaid to the said Gore Sr. and from the said Gore Sr. and wife to the said Rufus K. Summers recorded in the clerk's office of the Bullitt County Court.

Now the said Abraham Field, George W. Jenkins and Matthew Wilson, trustees as aforesaid for and in consideration of the premises hath, and by these presents doth grant, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Rufus K. Summers, his heirs &c the southern half of said lot number 24.

To have and to hold the said part of lot number 24 with all the appurtenances thereto belonging unto him the said Rufus K. Summers, his heirs &c and to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever, free and clears of and from all encumbrances whatsoever hereby warranting as trustees the said described part of said lot to the said Rufus K. Summers from the claims of all persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same. In witness whereof the said Abraham Field, George W. Jenkins and Matthew Wilson, trustees as aforesaid, hereto set their hands and seals on the day and year before written. (signed by trustees)
