On 26 Jun 1797, John Hugh purchased Shepherdsville lots 2 and 48 on Water Street and 78 on Third Street in the old town plan. That would be lots 59, 61, and 3 in the new plan.

This indenture made this 26th day of June 1797 between Nacy Brashears, Samuel Crow, Michael Troutman, Frederick Pennybaker, Benjamin Stansbury, Joseph Brooks and John Essary, trustees for the town of Shepherdsville of the one part, and John Hugh of the said town of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said trustees in virtue of the power vested in them by an Act of the General Assembly passed the Eleventh day of December 1793 entitled "An Act for establishing a town on the land of Adam Shepherd in the county of Jefferson" and also for and in consideration of the sum of 23 pounds 12 shillings paid to the said Adam Shepherd, agreeable to the directions of the said Act, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell and convey unto the said John Hugh, three certain lots of ground in the said town known in the plan thereof by numbers 2 and 48 on Water Street and 78 on Third Street.
To have and to hold the said lots together with all and every of the appurtenances thereon and thereunto belonging unto the said John Hugh, his heirs and assigns forever, subject nevertheless to the conditions expressed in the aforesaid act of the General Assembly. And the said trustees unto the said John Hugh, his heirs and assigns do hereby warrant and forever defend the aforesaid lots of land from the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever. And further the trustees aforesaid do hereby promise and agree to and with the sale John Hugh that they will at anytime hereafter at the costs and charges in the law of him the said John Hugh make do, suffer or cause to be made done and suffered any further deed or deeds or other writing which he or his counsel learned in the law may advise, devise or require for the better securing the aforesaid bargained and sold lots unto him the said John Hugh his heirs and assigns forever.
