Adam Shepherd & Sisters to Frederic Pennebaker - 2 Acres

On 24 Jul 1811, Adam Shepherd, in his and his sisters' names, sold 2 acres adjoining the town of Shepherdsville near the corner of Third and Plumb Streets to Frederic Pennebaker, as shown below. Pennebaker would sell the land to Noah C. Summers and Robert F. Samuels in 1825.

This indenture made this 24th day of July 1811 between Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife of the county of Bullitt and Commonwealth of Kentucky, and Margaret Hamilton, Elizabeth Guthrey, and Susannah Shepherd of the county of Baltimore and Commonwealth of Maryland of the one part and Frederic Pennebaker of the county of Bullitt and Commonwealth of Kentucky aforesaid of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said Adam, Rachel, Margaret, Elizabeth and Susannah for and in consideration of $20 current money of the United States to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Frederic Pennebaker, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land, situated, lying and being in the county of Bullitt aforesaid, adjoining the town of Shepherdsville and bounded as follows, to-wit.

Beginning at a stone on the north side of Third Steet and on the east side of Plumb Street of said town, thence with Third Steet South 83 1/2° East 8 poles to a stone, thence North 6 1/2° East 40 poles to a stone, thence North 83 1/2° West 8 poles to a stone, thence South 6 1/2° West 40 poles to the beginning containing two acres with its appurtenances.

To have and to hold, the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said Frederick, his heirs and assigns to his only proper use, benefit and behoof forever; and the said Adam and Rachel and Margaret, Elizabeth and Suzanne do covenant and agree with the said Frederic, his heirs and assigns that the premises hereby bargained and sold now and forever hereafter shall be and remain free and clear of and from all right and title of dower or other encumbrance whatever.

And that they just said, Adam and Rachel and Margaret, Elizabeth and Susanna will, and their heirs, executors and administrators shall warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said Frederic, his heirs and assigns against all, and every person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same. In testimony whereof the said Adam and Rachel and Margaret, Elizabeth and Susanna hereto set their hands and seals on the day and year first above written. (signed by Adam Shepherd)
