On 1 Jan 1806, John Masden purchased 100 acres of land from Adam Shepherd that was located along Cane Run in southern Bullitt County. It's interesting to note that it was not until September that Rachael Shepherd, Adam's wife, made her way to the clerk's office to acknowledge her acceptable of the transaction.

This indenture made this first day of January and the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & six between Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife of the county of Bullitt and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and John Masden of the county and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Adam Shepherd & Rachael his wife for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and forty dollars current money of the United States of America to them in hand paid by the said John Masden before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given, granted, bargained and sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said John Masden, his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres situate lying and being in the county of Bullitt aforesaid on Cane Run, beginning at a white oak, sugar tree and beech standing on the south bank of Cane Run and in the original line, thence with said line South ten degrees East ninety four poles to Macher's corner of three white oaks, thence North eighty degrees East one hundred and fourteen poles to 2 beech trees in the original line, thence North ten degrees West one hundred & seventy nine poles to a sycamore & buckeye trees on the south bank of Cane Run, thence down said run and binding thereon with the several meanders thereof one hundred and ninety four poles to the beginning with its appurtenances and hereditaments thereunto belonging unto the said John Masden, his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife for themselves, their heirs, executors, and administrators do further covenant and agree to and with the said John Masden, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns that they will forever warrant and defend the aforesaid one hundred acres of land with its appurtenances and hereditaments unto the said John Masden, his heirs and assigns against them the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife, their heirs &c and against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife have hereunto set their names and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. (signed) Adam Shepherd
Memorandum. The words "more or less" in the foregoing indenture were erased before the signing thereof and it is to be understood that the line of the above mentioned land which binds on Cane Run shall be bounded by the middle of said run. Anything therein contained to the contrary notwithstanding and if less land should be thereby contained in the survey, said Shepherd & wife are not in any wise to be accountable therefore. Bullitt County Sct To all whom it may concern I Frederic William Spencer Grayson, clerk of the county court of the county aforesaid, do make known that on the first day of January 1806 Adam Shepherd one of a party to this indenture personally before me acknowledged the same to be his voluntary act and deed, and the thereunder written instrument of writing was acknowledged by the said Adam Shepherd one of a party thereto and John Masden a party thereto personally before me to be their voluntary ace & deed; and that I have recorded the said indenture and the said instrument of writing in my office as required by law. Bullitt County to wit. I the deputy clerk of the county court of said county do hereby make known that on the fifteenth day of September last, Rachael Shepherd whose name and seal are affixed to the within indenture & memorandum which were here by me shown ... her from Adam Shepherd her husband & the said Rachael to John Masden of which is recorded in the said court in liber B page 38 was examined by me separate apart from and out of the hearing of her said husband declared that she made her said acknowledgement freely & voluntarily without his persuasion or threats or thro fear of his displeasure that she wished not to retract the acknowledgement and consented that it might be recorded & that the same acknowledgement is truly recorded in the office of the said court.
