On 25 Sept 1818, at the direction of William Mockbee, Adam Shepherd issued deeds for three lots of ground to James C. Graham as described below.
Bullitt County Deed Book D, Pages 42-44
Whereas Adam Shepherd did on the 22nd day of August 1797, convey by deed in fee simple to Michael Ryan half an acre of ground adjoining the town of Shepherdsville for the consideration of 25 pounds, beginning 80 feet from the northeast [northwest] corner of lot 29 in the old plan of said town at a stake in a line with the east side of the middle or main street of said town, thence the .. course of the said street 198'11" to a stake, thence North 83 1/2° East 99'5" to a stake, thence South 6 1/2° West 198'11" to a stake, thence North 83 1/2° West running parallel with the back line of the town land 99'5" to the beginning.
And whereas since the conveyance aforesaid William Mockbee purchased the said lot of the said Michael Ryan, and settled on and improved the same without any conveyance to him; therefore and whereas also the said Adam Shepherd by deed bearing date the 28th day of May 1799 conveyed to the said Mockbee for the consideration of 16 pounds a certain lot of land containing half an acre and bounded as follows, viz; beginning at Michael Ryan's upper corner, running thence North 6 1/2° East 198'11" to a stake, thence South 83 1/2° East 99'5" to a stake, thence South 6 1/2° West 198'11" to a stake, corner of Ryan, thence North 83 1/2° West 99'5" with Ryan's line to the beginning.
And whereas also the said William Mockbee purchased of the said Adam Shepherd one other lot of ground containing half an acre adjoining and laying east of the lot conveyed to Michael Ryan and bounded as follows viz. Beginning at the southwest [southeast] corner of the lot conveyed to Ryan, thence North 6 1/2° East 198'11" with Ryan's line to his corner a stake, thence South 83 1/2° East 99'5" to a stake, thence South 6 1/2° West 198'11" to a stake, thence North 83 1/2° West 99'5" to the beginning.
And it also appears that the deed conveying the half acre of ground to William Mockbee is deficient as it states that it was on the south side of Salt River instead of the north side.
And whereas the said William Mockbee has directed that a deed should be made to James C. Graham for the three lots of ground described and bounded as aforesaid; this indenture thereupon made this 25th day of September 1818 between Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the one part and James C. Graham of the same county and state of the other part.
Witness that the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife for and in consideration of the premises and the further sum of $15 to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell and convey onto the said James C Grayham, his heirs &c forever the before described lots of ground containing half an acre each on the north side of Salt River adjoining the town of Shepherdsville, and being the lots whereupon the aforesaid William Mockbee now lives.
To have and to hold the said lots of ground with their appurtenances unto the said James C. Grayham, his heirs &c free and clear of and from all and every encumbrance whatsoever. And the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife for themselves, their heirs &c do covenant and agree to and with the said James C. Grayham, his heirs &c that they will warrant and forever defend the said lots of land with all the appurtenances from themselves, their heirs &c, and all persons claiming the same except Michael Ryan and his heirs. In testimony whereof the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife have hereto set their hands and seals on the day and year within written.
