Following Samuel Hornbeck's death, his descendants divided his estate amongst themselves. The deed shown below describes this process, and identifies the part that went to his son John C. Hornbeck.

Whereas Samuel Hornbeck deceased died owning a tract of 408 acres of land, more or less, on the waters of Floyd's Fork in Bullitt County, and left the following children and heirs at his death, viz. Solomon Hornbeck, John C. Hornbeck Isaac Hornbeck, Ruam who married John Anderson, Susan who married Alfred Quick, Mary who married David L. Brooks, Dorthea who married James W. Knight and Preston N. Hornbeck and Susan Hornbeck his widow; and since the death of the said Samuel Hornbeck, the said Isaac and John C. Hornbeck purchased the interest of and received deeds of conveyance from the said John Anderson and wife, Solomon Hornbeck and Alfred Quick and wife for their interests in said lands which together with their own interests made them joint owners of five-eights of the whole tract of 408 acres aforesaid. And said Preston N. Hornbeck in like manner purchased the interests of and received deeds of conveyance from said Brooks and wife, and Knight and wife in said 408 acres, and which together with his own share made him the owner of three-eights of said 408 acres, all purchased subject to the dower. And since that period said Preston N. Hornbeck, Isaac and John C. Hornbeck have purchased from and received the deed of the said widow Susan Hornbeck for her dower interest in said 408 acres of land; and thereupon said Preston N., Isaac and John C. Hornbeck agreed to and did actually divide said tract of 408 acres of land between them according to their said respective interests as aforesaid, taking into consideration quantity and quality, whereby there has been set apart to said John C. Hornbeck by metes and bounds as his full share out of said 408 acres in pursuance to said agreement and the interests he held under his said purchases as aforesaid, the quantity of one hundred and fifteen acres, which said 115 acres are bounded as follows, viz.
Beginning at a stone marked S.H. the northeast corner of the Hornbeck land, thence North 88° (for West) West 117 poles to a stone in the lane and in the line between Hornbeck and Summers, thence South 1/2° West 133 poles to a stake, thence South 88° East 52 poles to a stone, thence South 1/2° West 51 poles to a stake, thence South 89° East 64 poles to a stake in the eastwardly line of Hornbeck's tract, thence North 1/2° East 183 poles and 11 links to the beginning.
And in like manner 153 acres were allotted to Isaac Hornbeck, and also 140 acres to said Preston N. Hornbeck, and by said agreement between said Preston N. Hornbeck, Isaac and John C. Hornbeck deeds of release by quit claim were to pass between them to each for his part of saidland as divided and allotted to and held by them under and by virtue of said purchases. Wherefore this indenture made this 22nd day of November 1839 between said Isaac Hornbeck and Mary M. his wife, and said Preston N. Hornbeck and Mary his wife of Bullitt County and State of Kentucky of one part and said John C. Hornbeck of said County and State of the other part, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises here named and the further sum of one dollar by said John C. Hornbeck to each of the other parties in hand paid, they the said Preston N. Hornbeck and wife and Isaac Hornbeck and wife have and do by these presents sell, alien, convey and confirm and release unto him the said John C. Hornbeck and to his heirs or assigns forever all their interests, rights, title and claim of them the said Preston N. Hornbeck and wife and Isaac Hornbeck and wife of in and to the said 115 acres of land with its appurtenances. To have and to hold the said 115 acres of land and its appurtenances unto him the said John C. Hornbeck to his heirs or assigns forever against the claims of them the said Preston N. Hornbeck and wife and Isaac Hornbeck and wife and all persons claiming by, from, through or under them or either of them by this their deed of quit claim. Witness the hands and seals of grantors. State of Kentucky, Bullitt County Sct. I Noah C. Summers, clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid, certify that the within deed from I. and P. N. Hornbeck and wives to John C. Hornbeck was on the 2nd day of December 1839 produced to me in my office and by the said grantors acknowledged to be their act and deed. And the said Mary M. Hornbeck and Mary J. Hornbeck, wives of the said grantors, being examined by me separately and apart from their said husbands, as the law requires, declared taht they did freely and willingly sign, seal and deliver said deed, and wished not to retract it, and again acknowledged said deed read and explained to them to be their voluntary act and consented that the said deed should be recorded. Whereupon said deed together with this certificate are truly recorded this 12th day of February 1840 in my said office. Att. Noah C. Summers C.B.C.C.
