Popes & Breckinridge to Benjamin Summers - 223 Acres

On 4 Jun 1818, William Pope Jr., Worden Pope and Robert Breckinridge together sold 223 acres in Bullitt County along Pennsylvania Run to Benjamin Summers as shown in the deed below.

This indenture made and entered into this fourth day of June 1818 between William Pope Jr., Robert Breckinridge, and Worden Pope of Jefferson county and state of Kentucky of the one part and Benjamin Summers of Bullitt county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William, Robert, and Worden for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money of the United States to them in hand paid by the said Benjamin Summers, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and confirm unto the said Benjamin Summers, his heirs &c forever 223 acres of land, more or less, lying and being in the said county of Bullitt on the waters of Pennsylvania Run, and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning at two white oaks between two sink holes, corner to John Edwards, thence with his line South 55° East 394 poles passing Arthur Quinn's corner of a Lynn tree 32 poles to two ironwoods, corner to Cardwell, thence with his line, North 220 poles to an elm and white oak in Triplet's line, thence with his line West 192 poles to his beginning corner which is down, thence South 88° West 34 poles, North 42° West 4 poles to a white oak in Robert Wilson's line, thence with his line South 10° West 4 poles, South 84° West 66 poles, North 75° West 44 poles to the beginning.

To have and to hold the said 223 acres of land, more or less, together with all and singular the appurtenances to the said premises belonging, or in any wise appertaining unto the said Benjamin Summers, his heirs and assigns, to and for his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And they the said William, Robert and Worden do covenant, promise and agree to and with the said Benjamin Summers that the before described land and appurtenances they will and their heirs shall forever warrant and defend to the said Benjamin Summers, his heirs and assigns against the claim of themselves and their heirs and all persons claiming by through, from or under them or any of them, but against no adverse claims, it being the intention of the said William, Robert and Worden to convey their right only. And they are not to be accountable for the purchase money or any part thereof in case the said land should be lost or taken by a superior claim. In witness whereof they the said William Pope Jr., Robert Breckinridge and Worden Pope have set their hands and seals the day and year aforesaid.
