James Samuels' 280 Acre Tract

On 30 Aug 1898, James Shanks surveyed 280 acres for James Samuels based on an entry dated 1 Jun 1783. Samuels received his deed to the land on 14 Jun 1800. This tract bordered a number of other tracts, as described below.

The Benson named in the survey was John Benson who signed over his patent to John King. Others mentioned included Jesse Rude and Adam Shepherd

Surveyed for James Samuels 280 acres of land in Bullitt County by virtue of part of a treasury warrant No. 2179, entered June the 1st 1783 on the south side of Long Lick Creek, beginning at [A] Jesse Rude's southwestwardly corner of 2 poplars, dogwood and beech, thence with Rude's line N 65° W 110 poles to [B] Beason's corner of two white oaks and red oak in said line, thence with Beason's S 25° W 135 poles to [C] Beason's corner of white oak and poplar in Ray's line, thence with Ray's line N 80° E 214 poles to [D] Ray's northeastwardly corner of two white oaks, thence with another line S 10° E 124 poles to [E] Walton's corner of large poplar and beech on the bank of a small run, thence with Walton's line N 85° E 185 poles to [F] a white oak in said line, thence North 170 poles to [G] two beeches in Shepherd's line, thence with said S 70° W 140 poles to [H] a forked beech, thence S 84° W 124 poles to the beginning. Deed

James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of part of a treasury warrant number 2179 and entered the first day of June 1783 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto James Samuels a certain tract or parcel of land containing 280 acres by survey bearing date the 30th day of August 1798, lying and being in the county of Bullitt on the south side of Long Lick Creek and bounded as followeth, to wit.

Beginning at Jesse Rude's southwestwardly corner of 2 poplars, dogwood and beech, thence with Rude's line N 65° W 110 poles to Beason's corner of two white oaks and red oak in said line, thence with Beason's S 25° W 135 poles to Beason's corner of white oak and poplar in Ray's line, thence with Ray's line N 80° E 214 poles to Ray's northeastwardly corner of two white oaks, thence with another line S 10° E 124 poles to Walton's corner of large poplar and beech on the bank of a small run, thence with Walton's line N 85° E 185 poles to a white oak in said line, thence North 170 poles to two beeches in Shepherd's line, thence with said S 70° W 140 poles to a forked beech, thence S 84° W 124 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said James Samuels and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the 14th day of June in the year of our Lord 1800, and of the Commonwealth the ninth.
