This indenture made this 16th day of December 1854 in the year of our Lord between Francis Maraman of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the first part and Wilhite Carpenter of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the second part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty-eight dollars to the said party of the first part in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell and convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever, all the following described pieces or parcels of land on the south side of Salt River and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning at a small elm on the west side of a small branch at its mouth on the bank of Salt River and corner to said Maraman and Carpenter land, thence down Salt River N 88° W 10 poles to a stone in the bank of, thence S 38 1/2° W 160 poles to a stone, thence S 70 1/2° E 36 poles, and 20 links to a black jack in the forks of a road, thence S 85° E 72 poles, & 20 links to a stone in said Maraman and Carpenter's line, four poles and 21 links from their corner of two red oaks, thence North with said Maraman and Carpenter's old line to the beginning, containing thirty-five and a half acres together with all the right and privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging.

To have and to have and to hold the above described premises with all the improvements and appurtenances to the same belonging to the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said party of the first part for himself and his heirs doth hereby covenant with the said party of the second part, his heirs or assigns that he is lawfully seized in fee of the premises aforesaid and have good right, full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same in manner aforesaid, and that he will forever warrant and defend the same and the quiet and peaceable possession thereof together with the appurtenances to the same belonging or appertaining unto the said Wilhite Carpenter, his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whosoever. In witness whereof the said Francis Maraman and Martha his wife who hereby relinquishes her right of dower to the above described premises have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and date above written. State of Kentucky, Bullitt County, Sct. I Robert F. Samuels, clerk of the County Court for said County, do certify that on the 16th December 1854 this deed from Francis Maraman and Martha his wife to Wilhite Carpenter was produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said Francis Maraman to be his act and deed and on the 19th January 1855 was acknowledged by Martha Maraman to be her act and deed, and the same was ordered to be recorded which is truly done in my said office this 19th day of January 1855.
