This deed made and entered into this 25th day of November in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred and forty eight between George W. Maraman and Susan his wife of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the one part, and Willhite Carpenter of the same county and state of the other part. Witnesseth: That for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred dollars in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the parties of the first part, they the said parties of the first part have granted, bargained, sold, aliened, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the party of the second part his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county of Bullitt upon the waters of Salt River, containing one hundred and fifteen acres more or less and bounded as follows.

Beginning at an elm on the bank of Salt River below the first branch below the lower ford on said river at Shepherdsville, thence up the river with its meanders 117 poles to an ash, elm and maple above the falls at the edge of low water mark on the south side of said river, thence leaving the river S 28° 2" E 12 poles to a stake at the road, passing at 4 poles a red oak and ash, thence up said road S 52 1/4° E 15 poles, thence S 19° 2" E 25 poles, thence S 27° E 25 poles to a gum stump at the forks of the road, one leading to Bardstown and the other to Elizabethtown, thence S 55° 3" W 189 poles to a sweet gum and swamp oak in Charles Maraman's line and corner to F. Maraman's 738 acre tract, thence with said F. Maraman's lines the following courses N 25° W 985 poles to a stake at the corner of the fence, thence N 77° W 50 poles to a stake in a fence corner, thence N 43° 2" E 92 poles to two large red oaks, one on each side of a road, thence N 14° 2" W 56 poles to a beech tree with four prongs near a branch, thence down the same N 30 E 44 poles to a beech tree, thence N 9° E 21 16/25 poles to a beech stump, the corner tree being cut down, thence N 12° 2" W 19 1/2 poles to a beech tree, thence N 28 1/2° E 10 poles to the place of beginning; together with all the rights, privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging.

To have and to hold the above described premises with all the improvements and appurtenances to the same belonging to the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever. And the said parties of the first part, for themselves and their heirs, doth hereby covenant with the said party of the second part and his heirs that they will forever warrant and defend the same and the quiet and peaceable possession thereof, together with all appurtenances to the same belonging or appertaining unto the Wilhite Carpenter, his heirs or assigns, against the lawful claim of all persons whatever. In witness whereof the said George W. Maraman and Susan his wife, who hereby relinquishes her right to dower to the above described premises, have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. (signed) G. W. I Charles D. Summers, deputy clerk for Noah C. Summers, clerk of the county court for said county, certify that this deed from G. W. Maraman and wife to Wilhite Carpenter was the 18th December 1848 produced to me in my office and acknowledged by G. W. Maraman to be his act and deed, and on the 30th January 1849 was acknowledged by Susan C. Maraman, wife of said G. W. Maraman,to be her act and deed, the said Susan being examined by me separate and apart fro her said husband as the law requires, declared she did freely and willingly sign, seal and deliver said indenture and wished not to retract it, and acknowledged said deed again shown and explained to her tobe her voluntary act and deed and consented that the same might be recorded. Whereupon I have this 2nd February 1849 truly recorded said deed together with this certificate in my said office. Att. Noah C. Summers, clerk, by C. Davenport Summers, deputy clerk.
