William Jewell to John J. Thomason - Shepherdsville Lot 28

William Jewell purchased lot 28 of the new plan of Shepherdsville on 2 Aug 1814, and held it until 22 Sep 1818, when he and his wife Arethusa sold the brick house standing on it to the president and directors of the Bank of Shepherdsville. He then sold the remainder of the lot to John J. Thomason as shown below. Thomason would then sell the lot to Henry Oldham on 3 Jun 1819.

This indenture of bargain and sale made and entered into this 24th day of March 1819 between William Jewell of Mercer County, Kentucky of the one part and John J. Thomason of Bullitt County, Kentucky of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said jewell for and in consideration of the sum of $2000 Kentucky currency to him in hand paid by the said John J. Thomason, the full receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath this day granted, sold and aliened, and by these presents doth grant, sell, alien and confirm unto the said John J. Thomason and his heirs forever a certain lot of ground in the town of Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky known in the new plan of said town by the number 28, containing one-half acre, together with all the appurtenances and privileges thereunto belonging or appertaining except the brick house now occupied as a bank and the particular ground on which it stands.

To have and to hold the said lot of ground situated as aforesaid, except as before excepted, and all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining to the only use and behoof of the said John J. Thomason, his heirs forever.

And the said William Jewell for himself and his heirs doth covenant with the said John J. Thomason and his heirs that the said Jewell will forever warrant and defend the title ot the aforesaid lot of ground except as before excepted to them free from the claim or claims of any persons claiming by, through or under him and free from the claim or claims of any, all or every person or persons whatever. In testimony whereof the said William Jewell hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written. [signed by Jewell]
